Architecture
Description
Architecture, a skill which dates back to the earliest civilizations, is the art and science
of erecting structures. It is viewed as being functional and technological as well as esthetic
focused, and it entails knowledge of structural stability, construction materials, and techniques for the styling and design of buildings. Architecture, while an important major of
study in its own right at the graduate level, is often viewed as an interdisciplinary study
at the undergraduate level, coupled with course work in art and design as part of a fine
arts program.
Plan of study
The plan of study provides an introduction to the discipline of design and includes opportunities to practice actual physical planning techniques as well. Most architecture courses
will be project-based and involve significant amounts of group work. Internships with
professional architects, either within the scope of study or as independent study projects
outside the normal school year, also may be available.
