Andrew Jackson University Academics
Andrew Jackson University (AJU) is unique with its use of new concept teaching for higher education. This university stands out from the rest because it is an educational institution for online learners. AJU is a virtual campus, and nothing else. And this is what makes it so different than other universities. Students can earn associate, bachelor, and master degrees, as well as certificates of proficiency from the luxury of their own home.
AJU is situated on Paradise Lake in Birmingham, Alabama. Established in 1994, AJU offers eleven online degree programs within five colleges and schools: College of Criminal Justice & Public Safety; The Sober College School of Addiction Studies; College of Business; College of Communication; and, College of Entrepreneurship.
AJU provides high-quality education through its online classes. With the partnership of Sober College, students are provided with the skills and knowledge needed to work with addicts and recovering addicts. AJU also works with an Advisory Board to help guide the university in providing the best education for students in criminal justice and public safety. Through its entrepreneurship courses, AJU prepares students with business concepts, skills and knowledge for managing their own businesses.
And it doesn’t stop here. AJU is continuously looking for ways to better assist its students. Five learning centers are being developed and are expected to open in 2009. These centers include The Center for Free Market Studies; The Center for Faith Based Learning; The Center for Military Studies; The Center for Distance Learning; and, The Center for Law Enforcement Studies.
Andrew Jackson University Admissions
Applying to Andrew Jackson University (AJU) is very simple. Just complete and submit an application for admission and a $75 application fee.
AJU also welcomes international students. Some additional forms and tests may apply. For specific instructions, contact the Office of Admissions.
Andrew Jackson University Financial Aid
Another unique aspect of Andrew Jackson University (AJU) is that it does not participate in offering federal financial aid. However, it does offer scholarships and grants. For more information on those options, students should contact the Office of Admissions.
To assist students with college expenses, AJU does offer two payment plans. Payment Plan A is a one-time payment with a 5% discount at registration. Payment Plan B consists of four installments which start the same month the course begins.
Another financial aid option is enrolling through one of the university’s local or national marketing partners. By doing so, qualifying students can receive free tuition.
Andrew Jackson University Students
Students enrolled at Andrew Jackson University (AJU) can expect to meet other students and be part of campus life. However, this campus is a virtual one. It involves all interaction and communication using the Internet. Even exams are taken online using a secure site from the comfort of your home.
AJU’s virtual campus provides students with all the necessary tools and resources to successfully complete each course. The courses are divided into 10 lessons. These lessons include reading assignments and graded assignments. There are midterms and finals. Instructors communicate and instruct students online. All grades and feedback from instructors are provided within 96 hours. And the best part, once you’ve completed a course, you are automatically signed up for the next class.
Even though students take courses online, they still use textbooks. The charge for undergraduate textbooks averages $115; while graduate textbooks average $145. Students can also opt to use e-books which are also available.
AJU also offers an online bookstore for purchasing books and university apparel and supplies. The online student center provides answers to many student questions. This center provides different tools to answer questions that may arise while taking online classes.
