University of West Alabama Summary
The University of West Alabama is a public four-year institution offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees. The University of West Alabama was chartered in 1835 as Livingston Female Academy and State Normal College, a church-related female academy, and admitted its first students in 1839. Undergraduate degrees are offered by the university in five divisions: Degrees in the College of Business, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the Master’s are awarded through the School of Graduate Studies. Note 5: The University of West Alabama softball team recorded their 14th and 15th wins of the season on March 8 when they hosted Miles College. This mission is accomplished by: The University of West Alabama has six residence halls and an apartment complex for graduate and married students, all of which are conveniently located near classes and campus services. Most of the students live in traditional residence halls, though students who attend the University on a Trustee Scholarship may also choose to live in one of the Residential Scholar Communities. The traditional residence halls are Spieth Hall, Selden Hall and Sisk Hall. The three buildings that make up the Residential Scholar Communities are Reed Hall, Stickney Hall and Hoover Apartments. Each residence hall consists of a Hall Director, Resident Assistants (RA’s), and several residents. Desk Assistants (DA’s) also work in the residence halls; however, beginning with the 2007-2008 academic year, they will only be limited to Stickney Hall. Reed Hall, Stickney Hall, Hoover Apartments, and Spieth Hall are co-ed residence halls, while Selden Hall is for women, and Sisk Hall is for men. For the 2007-2008 academic year, Reed Hall, Stickney Hall, Hoover Apartments, and Sisk Hall will be co-ed residence halls. Spieth Hall will be for men, and Selden Hall will be for women. Spieth Hall, formerly a co-ed residence hall in the past, has been converted back to this arrangement for the 2006-2007 academic year. Also, Sisk Hall, formerly just for football players, will now be an all male residence hall that is not limited to football players. Beginning with the 2007-2008 academic year, Spieth Hall will convert back to an all-male residence hall, while Sisk Hall will become co-ed. The following residence hall rates are listed to provide an estimate of a student’s room and board expenses for each semester. If students live in a residence hall, they are also required to purchase a meal plan.
