University of Phoenix, founded in 1976, is a private, coeducational institution. The campus is located in an urban area in Phoenix and 68 other locations. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 86,615.
Courses also are offered at 68 other locations. The basic educational approach is to focus on working students by employing case method and theory. Student participation is emphasized.

The College of Graduate Management Programs offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Business Administration in Technology Management (MBA/TM), Master of Arts in Organizational Management (MAOM), Master of Business Administration in E-Business (MBA/E-BUS), Master of Business Administration in Global Management (MBA/GM), Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management (MBA/HCM), Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management (MBA/HRM), Master of Business Administration/Accounting (MBA/ACC), Master of Business Administration/Marketing (MBA/MKT), Master of Business Administration/Public Administration (MBA/PA), Executive Master of Business Administration (XMBA), Master of Management (MM), Master of Management-International (MM-I), Master of Management Human Resource Management (MM-HRM), Master of Management-Public Administration (MM-PA), Master of Business Administration/Spanish (MBA/S), and Master of Business Administration/Global Management Spanish (MBA/GMS) as well as a doctoral program in organizational leadership and business administration. The strongest areas of study are business administration and organizational management. Regular programs bring distinguished speakers and visiting professors to campus. These include the university-affiliated Network for Professional Development.

Business students may take relevant nonbusiness courses in other departments. The maximum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 3 years.
There are 556 total full-time graduate business faculty, all of whom hold a doctorate; there are 4697 part-time faculty, of whom 32% hold a doctorate. Average business class size is 13.

Library
The library subscribes to 42,421 periodicals. The business library is particularly strong in management, organizational behavior, e-business, technology, and finance. Students have access to such databases and networks as ABI/INFORM, Business Source Premier, General Business File, PROMT, FIS Online, Thompson Research, and REF USA. Other opportunities for research consist of public and state universities.
Computers
Graduate business students need not have their own PCs. Computer labs are available at all campus locations for all students. Hours vary by location. Microsoft Office and other software may be available.
Career and Job Placement
Placement services are limited, since most students are already employed full time. Placement services for alumni include access to 3 service centers: Career Network, Career Resources, and Drake Beam Morin.
International Students
International students must take the TOEFL. International students must score 550 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT). They also must submit a translation of their transcripts. Financial aid is available for these students.
Calendar
The school operates on a continuous basis. Graduate programs are offered during the evening only.

A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 2.5. Most important admissions factors are grades in upper-level courses, work experience, and academic accomplishments and ability. A strong mathematics background is not required.
The average GPA was 3.64. Transfers are accepted.
Students may begin the MBA program in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, a nonrefundable application fee of $45, 1 letter of recommendation, and evidence of a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience and of current employment or access to a work environment that would enable them to complete course assignments, and must complete the university’s Comprehensive Cognitive Assessment pretest. The application deadline is open for fall entry. Students are notified on a rolling basis of the admissions decision. Once accepted, students may defer admission.

The FAFSA, the school’s own financial statement, and the previous year’s tax return are required. Check with the school for current application deadlines.
Tuition for all students is $443 per credit, or $10,221 per year.

Ten percent of the current graduate business school class have had an average of 12 years of full-time work experience prior to entering graduate school, a factor preferred by the school. The greatest percentage of students are from the South (34%). Fifty-six percent are women, 28% are minorities, and 10% are foreign nationals. The average age at entrance is 34; ages range from 23 to 62. In 2006, 12,656 graduate business degrees were awarded.
