Mt Sierra College Introduction
Located in central California, Mt Sierra College has become one of the premiere colleges in the Monrovia area. It is a private, bachelor’s degree-granting institution, offering degrees in Media Arts & Design, Technology, and Business. The college was established less than twenty years ago, in 1990. The vision at its establishment, which remains in place today, was to develop a higher learning institution that would focus also on allowing students to gain practical skills. Through hands-on learning techniques, Mt Sierra College seeks to ensure that each of its graduates gains a comprehensive understanding of the subject area which they study, as well as of the everyday skills required for succeeding in their desired field. This year, for the first time, Mt Sierra College also offered two back-to-back Community Job Fairs to help students to begin to familiarize themselves with potential employers and the general, current job market situation.
Mt Sierra College Academics
There are three degree programs available to degree-seeking students at Mt Sierra College: business, media arts and design, and technology. There are two components that comprise each of the college’s degree programs: a general education curriculum and a core curriculum. The core curriculum comprises the courses which are specific to each field of study. Much of the emphasis of the core curriculum is on gaining practical experience. Students will thus not only spend time mastering the reading and study material of their chosen field, they will also begin to gain real world exposure to its everyday applications. The general education curriculum focuses on a broader approach to education. Through an interdisciplinary learning format, the general education curriculum seeks to enhance students’ written and verbal communication skills. Strengthening all students’ critical thinking skills is also a central element of the goal of the general education curriculum.
Mt Sierra is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, Arlington, Virginia, and is approved as a degree-granting institution by the Bureau for Private Post secondary and Vocational Education, Sacramento, California. It is also officially authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to offer Federal Loans and Grants to students who may qualify.
Mt Sierra College Unique Programs
Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of the Mt Sierra College curriculum is the plethora of online degrees offered. The school utilizes the FlexLearn system to ensure that non-traditional students or those with scheduling conflicts can take courses from the convenience of home or work. This approach allows students to integrate classroom learning with online courses, as students may take classes both on the internet and on campus. While many students choose to enroll in the FlexLearn system in order to utilize this integrated approach to learning, a number of students also opt for pursuing online degrees solely through online course learning. Thus for those who may have career or personal conflicts with traditional campus course schedules, Mt Sierra College offers numerous flexible learning options.
Mt Sierra College Admissions
Applications for admission to Mt Sierra College are available online at the official school website. The college seeks to admit a diverse student body each year, and, as a result, the student body is composed of people from different races, genders, and backgrounds. While the admissions committee seeks to admit students from various educational backgrounds, a high school diploma is a prerequisite for potential matriculates. Additionally, while no formal standardized test scores are required for submission, applicants are expected to take a math and writing evaluation. Applications for admission are reviewed on a rolling basis; thus while preference is not given to those who apply earlier in the cycle, it is advantageous for students to apply as soon as possible given the limited number of available spots.
Mt Sierra College Financial Aid
Mt Sierra College maintains a Student Finance Department to help students and potential students to find the right avenue to finance their education. Over the past decade, the college, in conjunction with the Student Finance Department , has worked to help simplify the usually complicated process of applying for financial aid. The school now offers numerous resources, including complimentary consultation services by trained counselors to help guide you through the process. The Mt Sierra College Financial Aid Application is also available for free online at the school’s official website, along with instructions and information for contacting the financial aid office. The school also offers a Spanish version of each of these forms on the official website.
