Schiller International University, founded in 1964, is a private, coeducational institution. The 7-acre campus is located in a small town in central western Florida, northwest of Tampa. Figures given in the above capsule are approximate. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is approximately 1500.

The Graduate Business School was founded in 1978 and is located on the main campus. Courses also are offered at in London, Paris and Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Madrid, Engelberg and Leysin, (Switzerland). The basic educational approach is based on the conviction that communication between students and faculty is the essence of education. It is from this personal relationship that students gain inspiration and self-confidence as their educational progress is noted and encouraged.

Schiller International University, Graduate Business School Academics

The Graduate Business School offers the Master of Business Administration in international business, international and hotel tourism management, and management of information technology (MBA) and Master of International Management (MIM). Other programs include work-study, foreign exchange, and internships. The strongest areas of study are international business and international hotel and tourism management. The most popular courses are international business and information technology. Regular programs bring distinguished speakers and visiting professors to campus.

Forty-five total credits are required to complete the MBA, including 24 elective credits. Required courses include:

Students may eliminate or substitute requirements including the option to apply for up to 6 portfolio credits based on work experience up to 9 transfer credits are accepted.

The minimum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 1 year. For students attending part time, the minimum is 2 years; maximum, 6 years.

There are 12 total full-time graduate business faculty, of whom 91% hold a doctorate; there are 40 part-time faculty, of whom 60% hold a doctorate. Average number of courses faculty teach is 6; average business class size is 17.

Library

The university’s main library houses a collection of more than 10,500 volumes and 90 audio/video tapes/CDs, and subscribes to 86 periodicals. Students have access to databases and networks in the fields of business and allied subject areas.

Computers

Graduate business students need not have their own PCs. The business school has its own computer facilities.

Career and Job Placement

Majors most in demand by companies recruiting in a recent year, were finance, international business, international hotel and tourism management, and information technology. The percentage of graduates finding jobs were:

  • local small enterprises 18%
  • self-employment 2%

Placement services are limited, since most students are already employed full time but those available to alumni include references, resume work, and networking. Placement is available through the university placement office and Internet affiliations. Ninety-three percent of the most recent graduating class found jobs within three months of receiving their degree.

International Students

International students must take the TOEFL or the college’s own test. They also must submit a translation of their transcripts, proof of health, and proof of adequate funds. Financial aid is available for these students.

Calendar

The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 15 weeks long; summer sessions, 7 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the day and evening and weekends.

A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 2.8. Most important admissions factors are academic accomplishments and ability, grades in upper-level courses, and quality of undergraduate school. A strong mathematics background is not required.

The number of applicants for a recent class was 350; 200 were accepted; 150 enrolled. The average GPA was 2.8. Transfers are accepted. Minority students are actively recruited.

Students may begin the MBA program in the fall, spring, and summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, GMAT scores, a nonrefundable application fee of $60, and an essay. Students are notified of the admissions decision as early as possible.Check with the school for current application deadlines. Once accepted, students may defer admission.

Schiller International University, Graduate Business School Financial Aid

Stipends and programs available for minority students include the HBCU Institutional Award. The FAFSA, the school’s own financial statement, and the previous year’s tax return are required. Check with the school for current application deadlines.

Tuition for all students is approximately $18,500 per year. On-campus room and board costs approximately $9800; books and supplies, $400; and other fees, $500, for an estimated annual total of $23,200. Graduate student housing is available at the Florida, London, Leysin, and Heidelberg campuses. There is a referral service to help procure off-campus housing.

Schiller International University, Graduate Business School Students

Sixty-four percent of the current graduate business school class are enrolled full time. The greatest percentage of students are from foreign countries (80%). Thirty percent are women and 80% are foreign nationals. The average age at entrance is 28; ages range from 21 to 45.
