Introduction

Established in July 2009 from the merger of Northwestern Technical College (NTC) and Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC); Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) provides quality workforce education to the citizens of Northwest Georgia. The college is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia. Each year, the institute enrolls more than 8,000 students. GNTC is the largest college in Northwest Georgia and the fifth largest technical college in the state of Georgia. Apart from its Walker County Campus located in Rock Spring, the institute also operates other campuses such as Floyd County Campus, Gordon County Campus, Polk County Campus, and Whitfield Murray Campus.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It also holds accreditations by other agencies such as Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education, American Dental Association (ADA), Georgia Board of Nursing, Georgia Health Partnership Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Georgia Department of Human Resources, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and more.

The College offers nearly 200 programs of study that lead to an Associate Degree Nursing, an Associate of Applied Science Degree, a Diploma, or a Technical Certificate of Credit. The purpose of these programs offered by GNTC is to provide educational opportunities that will enable students to attain the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to succeed in the respective fields.

Students can earn degrees, diplomas, and certificates in diverse areas of study such as automotive, business, commercial truck driving, healthcare, industrial, public service, and other service careers.

The Adult Education Program at GNTC offers classes and instruction at the Adult Learning Centers located in Rock Spring, Rome, Cedartown, Rockmart, Calhoun, Summerville, Trion, Lafayette, Ringgold, and Trenton. The centers feature modern computer labs, study materials and resources, and specialized adult education staff for both day-time and evening programs.

The college also offers short-term focused training for professional or personal development through the Department of Continuing Education. The areas of training include health and safety, computer applications, occupational licensing, legal assistant certification, and recertification. It also offers OSHA approved training, professional development, and personal enrichment.

GNTC Online:

Georgia Northwestern Technical College also offers online education for those who are unable to attend a traditional college due to their personal and/or professional commitments. The non-traditional classroom environment involves lessons that are completed through the Internet using advanced technologies for student ease. The online classes offered by GNTC are of the same quality as the traditional classroom.

Admissions

Students seeking admission to the Georgia Northwestern Technical College must be at least 16 years of age at the time of application. Applicants must send their completed application forms along with all of their official transcripts, and SAT/ ACT scores to the institute. Transferring to GNTC is also easy. Applicants are required to submit their completed application forms along with official transcripts from all previous institutes attended.

GNTC believes in providing equal educational opportunities for all. It offers a wide variety of financial aid programs to help assist deserving and needy students pay for their college. Students

GNTC students enjoy a vibrant and active campus life. The Office of Student Life encourages the involvement of students in activities and organizations by promoting leadership and interpersonal skills, providing educational, cultural, entertaining, and recreational programs. Students can join the various on-campus clubs and organizations, which include Student Leadership Council (SLC), Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), and Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL).

Each of the GNTC campuses house a well-stocked library containing books, reference materials, journals, magazines, and various online resources. The library hours of each campus vary depending upon the preferences of student, faculty, and staff. There are librarians available to assist students find the right materials and books.

The Office of Career Services provides job assistance for GNTC graduates, alumni, and students. The staff and program faculty assist students in locating employment opportunities in their programs of study or in related fields. Students may also receive assistance in finding part-time jobs to bear college expenses and full-time employment upon graduation. The career center offers a wide variety of free services to the GNTC students and alumni. Georgia Northwestern Technical College fields men’s and women’s teams in diverse sports including basketball, volleyball, softball, and golf. The college is a member-college of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III. The men’s sports teams are nicknamed the Bobcats, and women’s teams are called the Lady Cats.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College offers a variety of meeting facilities for the students. The campus facilities provide an environment where groups can focus on their meeting agenda.
