After 3 years of employment, raising placement rates and getting top marks every year, I got a new director, whom I helped hire, and got fired for "gross misconduct". I accept the consequences of my actions, but the punishment does not seem to fit the crime. A student jokingly suggested I rip her paper in half. I jokingly, did. Not a good Idea. She decided to complain about it and it got me fired. I think there was alot more going on behind the scenes, especially from the new director. After three years at Apollo, loving my job and doing very well at it, I was fired for trumped up accusation that I did not even get a chance to defend myself on, I was fired over the phone, denied unemployment benefits because of it, and I have not found a new job. I have even applied at 7-11, dishwasher jobs, care-giver jobs and done everything I tried to teach the students about finding a job to no end. I am applying for foodstamps. I had to go to the drug manufacturer to get my insulin because it costs over 250.00 per month. My priest picks up the bill for my other medications and gets me a food box. I have sold anything and everything of value I own to make rent. I still can't find a job. This has been since September of 2008. I am un-hirable. I can't get the unemployment benefits that I paid for because of the "gross misconduct" on my record. I have lost my career, my life and anything that meant anything to me. I liked finding people jobs and externships. I wasn't easy on the students - I apologize if I was tough on any of you, but, if I'm not tough, I am not doing my job to prepare you for the real world out here. As you can tell, it is brutal. Not a good time to lose a job. What this director did to me was practically in-human. Not only did I lose my job because she was afraid of me, I have lost my career, my reputation and any way of obtaining a new job. I have always kept my rose-colored glasses on my face; I like to think the best of everyone. All the stories that I heard (and never passed on) about her, I kept to myself, I defended her, I asked her for help, I apologized sincerely for anything that I did to make her feel uncomfortable. I was duped by a conniving, vengeful woman that did not care that she ruined a life. What a fool I am.

I agree that this school has not followed through with promises to be placed in externships. Some students even had to send resumes themselves to the sites and the teacher did not provide any options at all of where we would like to extern. Nor did the school kept up with the promise of job placements afterwards. The teacher was never on top of things during the whole program and was completely disorganized.

the dental assisting class bored me. i was there for a week and was already drained. the way the school has them teach the course is less challenging than my freshman classes in high school. lab on the other hand was very challenging and almost unrealistic... times are not designated for you to learn as a class with the hands on... it's up to you to learn on your own and finish hands on... you could be 3 chapters ahead of what you're learning and still trying to complete that task... like you could be learning about endodontics in your mod, but in lab you're still behind in orthodontics (which you were learning about 3 weeks ago).
