Danville Area Community College Introduction

Founded in 1946, Danville Area Community College (DACC) is a public two-year community college located in Danville, Illinois. The institute has quickly grown into an independent college serving approximately 5000 students per year. DACC quickly adapts new instructional offerings to meet the dynamic economic needs of the community. The main college campus is spread across a landscaped area of 75 acres.

Danville Area Community College Academics

Danville Area Community College is fully accredited by The Higher Learning Commission. It is also a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. DACC offers academic programs and courses including college transfer, occupational degrees and certificates, skill development programs, customized training and re-training in areas of special interest.

The institute offers degree programs and certificates in diverse fields of study such as accounting, administrative professional, associate engineering science, computer communications & networks, early childhood child care option, electronic technology, industrial maintenance, and medical laboratory technician.

Dual Enrollment programs at DACC allow high school students to take college-level courses that will be utilized for high school credit and college credit. The high school students may enroll in these programs with prior consent from their guidance counselors. The programs included are Traditional Dual Credit, College Express, Project Lead the Way, and Middle College.

Danville has introduced programs to help returning military veterans in overcoming hurdles to integration and employment into the non-military world. The Veterans’ Multipurpose Employment Center is located in the employment and career services center at the college.

Developmental Education courses at DACC are designed to help students remediate the required skills to enter the college-level program. The areas of emphasis in developmental education are centered towards math; English grammar and composition; and reading, vocabulary, and study skills. Adult Education offers GED and Basic Education courses for the high school completion, and English as a Second Language to develop skills for the non-native speakers.

DACC Online:

Danville Area Community College offers online education for students who are unable to attend a traditional college due to several personal and professional commitments. Students can pursue the online courses anytime, from anywhere. Some of the online courses offered at the institute are Cultural Anthropology, Art Appreciation, Introduction to Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Human Biology, Introduction to Environment, Microbiology, Entrepreneurial Skills, Medical Terminology, and Microeconomic Principles.

Danville Area Community College Admissions

Students seeking admission to Danville Area Community College must have a high school diploma or GED. Students must take the ASSET placement exam or provide ACT or SAT scores for appropriate placement. Transfer students must send the completed application form along with official transcripts from all previously attended institutes. International students are encouraged to apply for admission. However, applicants from non-English speaking countries must take the computer-based TOEFL test to provide a proof of their proficiency in English language.

Financial Aid

Danville Area Community College believes in providing equal educational opportunities to all. Hence, it provides financial assistance through various financial aid programs. All students must submit the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to be considered eligible for financial aid.

DACC Emergency Fund and DACC Presidential Scholarships are gifts that do not require any repayment. The scholarships are available for full and part-time students in diverse areas of study. Although some limitations may apply, the scholarship funds can be used for tuition, fees, and course related books. Federal loans are available to eligible students. The college also provides veteran educational benefits to the veterans and their family members.

The Veterans Multipurpose Employment Center at DACC serves the veterans in the areas of training and employment. The center is designed to help them successfully compete in the job market while removing any employment-related hurdles. Some of the services offered by the VMEC include career counseling, skills assessment, workshops, student veteran orientation, employment opportunities, resume development, labor market information, job search tips, online career libraries, assistance in navigating the college system, training access, and several other supportive services.

Danville Area Community College Students

Danville Area Community College boasts an active and vibrant student life. There are a variety of clubs and organizations on the campus. Each organization sponsors different activities related to the interests of the members, throughout the academic year. Students may either join an existing club or start a new one. Some of the active student clubs and organizations include Ag Club, Cheerleading Squad, College Republicans, College Singers, Conservation Club, Danville Symphony Orchestra, Intercollegiate Athletics, International Studies and Programs, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Pep Band, Vermilion Festival Chorus, TRIO Ambassador Club, and DACC Scholars Program.

The Career and Employment Services strive to manage and facilitate all employment and career planning related activities in partnership with students, staff, present and future employers. Some of the services offered at the Center include career information, personality assessment programs, full and part-time job listings, general job search assistance, labor market information, job readiness workshops, nontraditional career, and career-related research.

The Student Success Center at DACC provides services and resources to empower students to be successful in life. The SSC’s services are offered to a wide range of students in both transfer and vocational programs. The services are offered in three main areas: Tutoring; Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities; and TRiO Student Support Services.

Academic Advisement & Counseling Center provides essential counseling to the students regarding academic and personal issues. The Center covers curriculum guides for each major; majors advised; general education electives; transfer course information; cooperative agreement programs; internet course readiness; counselor schedule and e-mail; and instructions for new students.

Athletics

Danville Area Community College’s athletic department sponsors men’s and women’s teams in diverse sports such as basketball, softball, volleyball, baseball, cross-country, golf, and soccer. The College competes in more than ten sports, and is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The sports teams are nicknamed the Jaguars.

Danville Area Community College Additional School Information

The Adult Education program at DACC strives to offer students a second chance to complete a basic education by helping them to improve basic skills (reading, writing and math); prepare for successful GED testing; transition into a career or post secondary education; learn the basic skills needed in the workforce today. Additionally, the program provides a caring and competent staff, convenient centers of instruction, and an encouraging environment conducive to learning.
