Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest Introduction

Ivy Tech Community College is the largest college in the state of Indiana and the largest single accredited statewide community college system in the United States. The Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest region was founded in the year 1968 and serves the counties of Dubois, Perry, Vanderburgh, Gibson, Daviess, Knox, Posey, Warrick, Pike, and Spencer. The main campus of the Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest region is located in Evansville and the college has a total annual enrollment of 8,000 students. Classes are also held in Princeton and Tell City.

The Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest Academics

The Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest region offers various degree, certificate, and technical certificate programs through the eight schools of the Ivy Tech system, namely: School of Applied Science & Engineering Technology, School of Business, School of Education, School of Health Sciences, School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Public & Social Services, and the School of Technology.

Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest Admissions

Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest admits first-time students, returning Ivy Tech students, GED credential holders, transfer students, international students, and dual credit high school students. To seek admission in the Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest, students need to complete an admission application form. They are also required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education. There is an orientation session for new students. Students are also required to appear for the COMPASS Placement test for assessment of basic skills in Algebra, Mathematics, English and Reading. Students can seek exemption from the placement test based on their SAT/ACT/PSAT scores or if they have prior college credits in English and Math.

Financial Aid

The Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest provides financial aid to students to help them meet their educational expenses. The different forms of financial aids available to students include: grants, work-study opportunities, scholarships, and student loans. Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest Students

The Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest believes that students can enhance their career and educational prospects by participating in campus organizations and activities. The Student Leadership Academy provides the platform for emerging leaders to hone their leadership skills through study, observation, and application. The Academic Skills Advancement program is aimed at students facing academic difficulty and provides assistance with developmental instruction in communications, math, sciences, and writing and study skills. The Academic Advisors on campus provide assistance to students to help them achieve their educational, personal, and career goals. The Career Services Center of the Ivy Tech Community College has its own job search website, JobZone, where students can search for open positions and post their resume. The Student Government is the voice of the students and promotes the college spirit. There is a bookstore on the campus which stocks textbooks and supplies. The Carter library houses various educational resources, periodicals, recreational reading materials, online databases, and career exploration materials. Food services are available for the students of the Ivy Tech Community College-Southwest at the Meadow’s Café in the Koch Student Center and there are vending machines in the Student lounge.
