I have to say that if I had a choice, I would NEVER attend Ivy Tech College again. I am a military veteran and the only reason Im even at Ivy Tech is because a mix up in some paperwork and I have to attend one more semester before I can move on to a real school that actually knows its an educational institution, not just a business. I have been attending the central (North Meridian Campus)and the teachers thus far have been awesome, nothing bad to say there, but administration... WOW... Absolutely rididculous. They have been extremely rude, and consistantly less than helpful. They have messed up paperwork at every turnpoint, costed me hundreds of dollars more than cost of attending, refuse to accept resonsibility and they steadily pass the buck to anyone they can instead of just fixing problems. I have both federal and state grants that I am approved for, yet I am about to be dropped for non payment because they put the wrong date on my paperwork. I have done EVERYTHING they have asked but they still say this is my fault and to "deal with it". I have proof of all this too for all you skeptics out there. Last semester my wife and I almost lost our house and everything because of Ivy Tech not doing theyre job (financial aid employees as well as bursars office), it wasn't til I spoke with head of the bursars office (I think it was the viceroy, or chancellor or maybe the chairman), and threatened to call the press and channel 6 news that I got anywhere with them. Personally, this is MY money, MY experience, and MY education and I don't believe I should be disrespected and stepped on this bad or anyone for that matter just for trying to better your life. I don't see how anyone can instill the traits (responsiblity, dedication, discipline... etc)that come with college when they are incapable of following them themselves. These are my honest thoughts, if you can go somewhere else, I would highly recommend it. REMEMBER!!!! THERE IS A HUGE REASON IT IS THE CHEAPEST COLLEGE OUT THERE, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE STUDENTS.

Anne Rector, As previously mentioned, for someone who is making such broad accusations, you need to work more on your own spelling and grammar. I personally attended the Bloomington Campus and I have to say nothing in your description comes even remotely close to being true. I know this page pertains primarily to the central campus, however, you made no distinction in your "review", therefore I don't feel that you deserve any slack in that regard. I graduated with two Associate Degrees from Ivy Tech, with a 4.0 average, I am now attending a University to continue in my field. Ivy Tech was instrumental in my success, which also means that my instructors were to be praised. One of my main instructors had a Ph.D. in education and has easily surpassed 99% of professors (not including Teaching Assistants) at the two universities I have attended since. Ivy Tech is not without its faults, but no College or University is. I have a personal friend who is attending MIT for Nuclear Engineering that can come up with a concise and intelligent lists of problems with said school. Its a shame that you had such a foul experience at Ivy Tech, though you certainly stand alone in the wide pool of people I personally know (One of which attended your campus) who has much, if anything negative to say about it. So, next time you "review" something, try not to come across as so hypocritical and ignorant, because I assure you, you did a magnificent job of making your "review" useless and broad.

I had a great experience at Ivy Tech. I attended the campus in Lafayette which is very clean and new. All the instructors I had were very helpful and friendly. I thought the standards were very high and they went out of their way to make sure you had assistance if you were having problems. A great way to save money on your first two years of college, and almost all the classes are transferrable to any state school.

To comment on Anne's post, first of all, you misspelled college. So, let's not throw stones. I am in my second year at Ivy Tech, and I am guessing that you attended the downtown campus, which is no better or worse than when I attended IUPUI. Ivy Tech is actually great, the classes are small, it is much easier to learn with 20 people in a class than with 120. You cannot in any way compare it with something like IU or Notre Dame, but that is not what is intended. If you are looking for a stepping stone to a four year college, or to obtain an Associates Degree, Ivy Tech, I feel, is the best place to go. It is what it is, and it serves the need for many people that cannot afford to go to a shiny new school paid for by the extraordinarily high tuitions.

This is not a legitimate "colleg". It is a diploma mill that hands out transcripts to "students" who cannot read, cognate, critically think, or even think at all in many cases, count, write or use proper grammar. But then, neither can the staff and 90% of the instructors. Indiana is the last state in the nation to establish a community college system. The other 49 had theirs operational in 1965. And it shows. The staff members a dumb Hoosiers who don't know how to come in out of the rain, who blame their copious mistakes on each other, because they don't even realize they have made mistakes, that's how incompetent they are. The place has been filthy for years. The bathrooms are so trashy and unsantiary that you can't go in them. The halls and carpeting are soiled and stink. Doors and doorknobs fall off, as does lead-based paint from windows and old walls. You will be taught nothing you can't learn from the GED classes on PBS, if that advanced. You will not need to study, because most instructors do not have standards high enough to require thoughtful papers and grading. This "school" is a joke, operated (loosely) by jokers. Think about why it took so long for the state to establish a two-year community college. Think Jurassic Park, and you will be at Ivy Tech, only it's dirtier.
