Introduction

Labette Community College is located in Parsons, Kansas and works to help students throughout their academic careers by providing basic education courses for transfer purposes, industry-specific fields of study, and general education programs.

Academics

Labette Community College offers four different track programs in which to pursue a degree. An Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, and Associate in General Studies can be obtained through the college.

The first and most popular are the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees. These programs enable you to attend the first two years at Labette, receive an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree, and then transfer to a four-year university to obtain your Bachelor’s degree. Areas of study range in Art to Philosophy.

There are also various career programs through Labette Community College. These programs culminate in an Associate in Applied Science degree. This particular path is best reserved for students who are looking for job training versus general education courses to secure a job immediately after graduation. Areas of study range in Criminal Justice to Graphic Design.

Finally, students at Labette can take advantage of an Associate in General Studies degree. This particular track provides an education in a very broad array of fields.

Admissions

It’s recommended by the Labette Community College Admissions Office that you schedule a visit before filling out an application for the school. This enables you to get a better idea of course offerings as well as the overall feel and fit of the college.

Once you have visited campus, you can fill out the application available at the Admissions Office or online. Along with your application, you must submit high school or GED transcripts, college transcripts from another school that you’ve attended, and ACT scores. If you have not taken the ACT or are unsatisfied with your score, Labette Community College provides the opportunity to take The Compass Placement Exam, which you can actually take on campus.

Students wishing to gain admittance to Labette should consider applying the fall before they wish to attend. A decision is typically made in the spring and once that has been done, you can pick which classes to take and enroll with an academic advisor. At that time, you’ll also need to arrange tuition payments with the Business Office.

Financial Aid

Once you have completed the admissions process for Labette Community College, it’s important to begin the financial aid process as soon as possible. You should begin the process before you’ve heard back about a decision. Applying early helps you receive maximum consideration.

Students

Over 50% of the student body attends full-time. A little less than 80% of students are from Kansas, accounting for a rather large number of out-of-state students for a community college. The student body is also over 10% multicultural.

Labette Community College provides a variety of student clubs and organizations to become involved in. From Biology Club to Campus Activities Board, there is something to appease every extracurricular interest. The campus also provides movie nights, Homecoming events, as well as the annual Labette Idol vocal contest.

The Labette campus also features the Student Success Center. It provides academic assistance to students as well as access to a free computer lab.

Because Labette Community College is mostly a commuter campus, there is no on-campus housing. However, Labette works with students to successfully find apartments and housing within the city of Parsons.
