    Southwestern College is a four-year college in Winfield, Kansas affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The college got the name the “Moundbuilders” because of a very large pile of rocks on the college campus, called “The Mound.” At the very beginning of the school year, the “Moundbuilding Ceremony” allows students, faculty, clubs, and guests of Southwestern College to “put a rock on the mound.” The Moundbuilding ceremony was instituted by Dean Leroy Allen in 1927 for “Nobody but Moundbuilders can build mounds.
