Academics

The Hult International Business School has been accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges since 1976, and more recently the school’s degrees have been given recognition by the British Accreditations Council of Independent Further and Higher Education among other international bodies. Originally, the school was modeled after the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which explains in part its solid reputation over time.

The offering of programs at the Hult International Business School can be divided into four areas: undergraduate “American-style” programs; MBA programs; master programs; and executive programs.

Specifically, bachelor’s degrees are available in Business Management, Communications, and International Relations. The MBA programs are one year in duration and are offered at five different locations: London, San Francisco, Boston (Cambridge), Dubai and Shanghai. The master programs are available in the fields of International Business, International Relations and Finance. Finally, the executive programs, based out of the Dubai campus, offer executives the chance to refresh their MBA (with an honors program developed in conjunction with Stanton Chase International, a top executive search group) or receive specific graduate diplomas.

The academic quality of the various programs at the Hult International Business School is attested to by the recent inclusion of the school in the Financial Times’ rankings. Hult was ranked 6th in international business, 25th best business school in Europe, and 54th best school in the U.S by the Financial Times. Furthermore, the school’s MBA program was the only one-year such program to make the list for Fortune’s Best 50 Business Schools for Hiring. All of this is due in large part to the school’s ability to provide a genuine international experience to students, reflected by the locations of the five campuses mentioned above.

Hult International Business School’s tuition ranges from about $32,400 per year for masters programs, to $55,500 for the one-year MBA program. Undergraduate programs are available at the London campus, and tuition is about £14,900 per year.

Admissions

Considering just how much prestige the Hult International Business School has acquired over the years, it’s no wonder that this is a fairly selective school in terms of admission. For example, regarding the Hult International Business School MBA programs, the general admissions requirements are that a candidate be above 25 years old, have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, possess more than three years of professional experience, and what the school terms “leadership potential.” The subjectivity of this final criterion evinces the fact that the admissions interview will play a crucial role in determining an applicant’s status. On average, the school likes to choose candidates that already have management experience, and the admissions staff seeks to put together incoming classes that are highly diverse (not only in terms of nationality but also in terms of areas of expertise), to make classroom settings more dynamic.

Total application materials, in addition to the application form itself (which can be submitted online), include a statement of purpose, an updated resume, official transcripts of all higher education experience, GMAT scores received within the last five years, two letters of recommendation, and the application fee of $150.

Hult has six application deadlines throughout the year: Round 1 Deadline – Sunday, October 31, 2010, Round 2 Deadline – Sunday, December 12, 2010, Round 3 Deadline – Sunday, Jan 30, 2011, Round 4 Deadline – Sunday, March 6, 2011, Round 5 Deadline – Sunday, April 17, 2011, Round 6 Deadline – Sunday, June 26, 2011.
