Introduction

In 2011, New England College of Business and Finance (NECB) was named the most affordable private college in New England by the U.S. Department of Education.

Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the New England College of Business and Finance has been providing business-oriented higher education programs since 1909. The school is primarily involved in offering distance learning programs that range from the associate level all the way up to the master’s level, specializing in areas such as business in general, finance, or even ethics and compliance. Also known simply as NECB, the school was originally established under the name of the American Banking Institute; it received degree-granting status from the state in 1979 and in 1985 obtained full regional accreditation.

Academics

NECB has just recently celebrated its 100th anniversary of state of the art education in the business field. At present, the institution’s specialization is in online degrees aimed at advancing students’ understanding of business in many ways as well as their business skills. Always ahead of the curve, the school offers coaching support to help students maximize their learning experience at NECB.

Most students at NECB are already working professionals that have to balance their studies against their jobs and family responsibilities. Hence, the school deliberately allows for students to learn at a pace that suits them best, pursuing programs set up and taught by experts in the specific subject matter. Given the rate of tuition, a NECB education offers a tremendously high return on one’s investment.

Admissions

In accordance with the open admissions policy in force at NECB, any person in possession of a high school diploma or a GED can enroll with the school. In order to be considered for admission, the following requirements must be satisfied:

  • an official Application for Admission must be completed
  • the $50 application fee must be paid, which is non-refundable
  • the annual fee of $50 for “e-resources” must be paid
  • proof of high school diploma or GED must be provided
  • and finally, the applicant must complete the Student Financial Agreement must be submitted (or other loan documentation) in the case of people seeking financial assistance.
  • For first-time applicants, part of the admissions procedure will entail taking the English, Math and Computer Skills Diagnostic Exams (which are mandatory before actually begin any coursework). It should be noted that applicants to NECB already in possession of an associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, or who have earned 24 or more college-level credits that cover the fundamental areas described above, are exempt from these diagnostic exams.

    Financial Aid

NECB is a participating institution in the Federal Title IV financial assistance programs, and hence its Financial Aid Office can help new applicants and/or current students obtain a variety of forms of financial assistance: from Federal Pell Grants to Federal Stafford Loans, Federal PLUS Loans, and much more.

Anybody interested in obtaining such federal assistance for their studies should get in touch with the school’s Financial Aid Office for help in navigating the application process (such as via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the most important document in this regard). The staff at the school’s Financial Aid Office are not only available to help current and prospective students in obtaining federal and other forms of aid, but also are on hand to help in this regard following graduation or withdrawal from NECB. The staff can also help at any stage in terms of loan deferment, loan repayment/consolidation plans, and general credit matters.
