Academics
With programs distributed across eight different locations, American Career Institute offers programs in high need areas, reflecting a commitment to providing relevant education and training to Massachusetts and Maryland residents alike. These career programs are in the following areas: digital media, medical assisting, dental assisting, information technology, and programming.
Under the Digital Media program students have the option of choosing from one of the following degrees: graphics design, special effects design, digital gaming design, digital multimedia design, and graphics and web design.
In the graphics design program students learn to create corporate logos, produce magazine layouts, and use photo manipulation software. This program is offered at select locations only, including Framingham and Woburn.
Under the digital multimedia design program, students will be educated in 3-D animation, web development and design, as well as direct training in Photoshop and Illustrator. This program is available at all ACI locations.
The digital gaming design program teaches students a combination of video game design paired with general 3-D animation instruction. This program is also offered at every ACI campus.
The graphics and web design program will train students to design print ads, develop magazine layouts, and create logos and websites.
The special effects design program is only offered at 6 ACI locations. This program involves coursework in audio technology, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and After Effects.
In the IT & Computers division students can choose to study: PC and Network Design, PC and Network Administration and lastly, PC and Network Design with Security.
The PC and Network Design with Security program is offered at 7 locations, including Cambridge and Baltimore. It is designed to prepare students for careers in network engineering, security analysis and exchange engineering for example.
Careers that can be made from the PC and Network Administration degree include help desk technician, network operation, information technology specialist, and network administrator. Students in this program are prepared to be certified in A+ and Linux, for example. This degree program is offered at 6 different locations.
Only at the Wheaton campus is the PC and Network Design program offered. This career program prepares students to embark on careers as a system engineer or tech support specialist, for example.
The medical and dental training programs offer 3 different degrees including, dental assisting, medical coding and billing and medical assisting.
The dental assisting program will instruct students in taking dental X-rays, recording medical history and generally assisting the dentist. The medical assisting program prepares students to assist in a variety of healthcare environments. Students in this program will learn relevant medical terminology and general administrative skills. Both of these programs are offered at various sites including Springfield and Braintree campuses. Much like the medical assistant program, the medical coding and billing program will prepare the student with relevant medical terminology, instruct on proper medical billing and insurance procedures as well as provide hands on externship experience.
The Programming and Oracle division offers degrees in enterprise solutions development, Oracle administration and enterprise solution development, and Oracle database administration. These programs are very self-explanatory. Those interested in database management will benefit from either program involving the use of Oracle. The Oracle and database administration degree in particular is offered on 5 different campuses. If planning to enroll in the enterprise solutions developer program, students will concentrate on JAVA, XML, and SQL server. This program is offered in several locations in Massachusetts, but only on one campus in Maryland. The last program which combines Oracle administration with the enterprise solution developer program, combine the best of both programs training students in database management and familiarizing them with JAVA and software development. This program is available on 6 different campuses.
