McDaniel College Summary
McDaniel College is a small, semi-selective, private college of the liberal arts and sciences in Westminster, Maryland, located 30 miles northwest of Baltimore, with a branch college in Budapest, Hungary. The college was founded in 1867 as Western Maryland College, and was named for the Western Maryland Railroad because the College’s first Board chairman was also the president of the railroad. The ties with the United Methodist Church were cut over a court case in which Western Maryland and other religiously affiliated schools in Maryland were being challenged over state funding received by the colleges because of their religious ties. However the record stands that Western Maryland College was primarily a school without minority representation until well into the 1960’s. McDaniel College Budapest (formerly known as Western Maryland College Budapest) was established in collaboration with College International Budapest in 1994.

Although a nice campus and quiet atmosphere, McDaniel's HRD graduate program lacks substance and is still very much in development stages, even as it enters its second decade. It revolves around the already practicing HR professional and leaves very little room for exploration of the development and management aspects of HRD. In the end, its an expensive and cumbersome experience.
