Carl Von Shroeder
Good afternoon to all who are reading this I happened to find this website on a Google search and I'm familiar with MCTI because I was a former student there and unfortunately my experience at MCTI was anything but positive. Before my arrival at MCTI I was tested by an independent testing company in AUburn Hills Michigan that was contracted by the school and passed all their tests with flying colors. Based on my scores for these tests I could theoretically go into almost any program of my choice at MCTI. I decided to go into their automotive program and went through the recommended procedures for contacting there admissions department. When I arrived at MCTI several months later i was in for a rude surprise. The school did not put me in the automotive program right away as promised but instead put me in their step up program. In addition the School counselor I was assigned to completely disregarded and berated both my test scores and my transcripts from Oakland Community College that showed that I could pass their automotive classes. Also during my time at MCTI I was singled out and harassed by school staff on a regular basis because In their view I did not fit into there mold of a typical MCTI student (which is someone that is dependent minded and needs constant supervision) when in fact I'm an independent minded person who does not need much supervision, can easily do my academic work, and do many mental and physical tasks without any help. In one instance I was humiliated in front of my whole math class by my teacher who proceeded to berate my use of a scientific calculator (which is a key part of completing my math work) and chose to not help me with my work at all. The OT on site also subjected me to an unnecessary and flawed Occupational therapy examination when i went to ask her for some modifications to my learning program. Her scores on that test were flawed and inaccurate in multiple categories and i was forced to advocate for the scores to be corrected (which I was successful in doing) The school Counselor that I was assigned to (who was mentioned earlier) was also extremely disrespectful to me and in one case during a "team meeting" claimed to have heard me say that i had second thoughts about the automotive program (which was a false statement considering I have never said anything of the sort). My problems at MCTI were sadly not limited to the classroom. Even when living in the Dorm halls of the school I was subject to instances where school staff would not give me the proper tools to do common room upkeep and cleaning that they themselves asked of us (such as screwdrivers and other equipment) even though I am sound of mind and can easily use hand tools and other cleaning equipment. When I asked a school Staff member why they would not give out the tools that were needed to complete the tasks they asked of us they claimed that it was because of the schools insurance policies (which sounds like a flat out lie since these same staff members were observed my me giving tools to certain students especially members of hall senate and R/A's). This is a true account and I figured I'd take some time out of my day to post my criticisms of MCTI and my strong recommendation for anyone who is thinking about enrolling at this school to think twice and consider enrolling to another school where you will be treated like a human being and get the education that is very lacking over at MCTI. In addition I'm also calling for the state government (whom provides funding to MCTI) to look into the behavior and actions of the school staff and to act accordingly and appropriately if they find any wrongful or questionable behavior
