Barber-Scotia College is a historically black college located in Concord, North Carolina, USA. The institution changed its name to Scotia Women’s College in 1916, merged with Barber Memorial College of Anniston, Alabama in 1930, and in 1932 changed names to Barber-Scotia College. On June 24, 2004, the college lost its accreditation, due to what the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools said was a failure to comply with SACS Principles and Philosophy of Accreditation (Integrity). The goal is to obtain accreditation with a national accrediting body such as the American Academy for Liberal Education (AALE) or the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) by the 2007-2008 academic year, and accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) by the 2008-2009 academic year. On October 8, 2004, the Board of Trustees of Barber-Scotia College approved a proposal to make entrepreneurship education its single academic focus and authorized its new President to begin a planning process to move the College in that direction. Offering the Bachelor of Science Degrees exclusively in Entrepreneurship and Business Administration uniquely positions Barber-Scotia College as an entrepreneurial college with the primary mission of educating future local and global entrepreneurs as well as promoting social and economic parity.

Barber Scotia College wasn't in my future but after arriving on the campus BSC became my alma mater. The Professors knew everyone by there names and no matter what they supported you. Dr.young and pro.Thomas were the most encouraging teachers you could ever had. IF BSC wouldn't have closed down in 2005 , I would have continued to attend no matter.

Being born and raised in Minnesota, Scotia was a great experience for me because I came to an historically Black college and was amongst Black students who were all striving for the same goal; EXCELLENCE! The professors were extremely supportive and to fail was not an option...unless failure was one's option. Any prospective student considering my alma mater is on the track for success! Please expect that friends you make at Scotia will be life-long friends! c/o'94
