Antioch University-New England, Department of Organization & Management History
Antioch New England Graduate School, founded in 1852, is a private, coeducational institution. The 6-acre campus is located in a small town 90 miles northwest of Boston. Total enrollment is approximately 1200. Enrollment figures in the above capsule are approximate.
The Department of Organization and Management was founded in 1964 and is located on the main campus. The basic educational approach is to focus on developing leaders with conceptual and applied skills in using systems to analyze problems and develop solutions, and to assist students in developing congruence among conceptual theories, internal values and beliefs, and professional practice.
Antioch University-New England, Department of Organization & Management Academics
The Antioch New England offers the Master of Science in Management (MS), Master of Education in Administration and Supervision (MEd), and Green Master of Business Administration Organizational and Enviornmental Sustainability (MBA). Other programs include work-study and a required internship of 8 to 10 credits in an intensive applied-management project. The strongest areas of study are organization development, leadership development, and group dynamics.
Forty total credits are required to complete the MS in Management. Required courses for the MS in Management include:

Students may eliminate or substitute requirements by applying for permission from the instructor and department chairperson.
Business students may take relevant nonbusiness courses in other departments. The minimum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 4 to 5 semesters; maximum, 7 semesters.
In a recent year, there were 4 total full-time graduate business faculty, all of whom hold a doctorate; there were 18 part-time faculty, of whom 45% held a doctorate. Average number of courses faculty teach is 4; average business class size is 16.

Library
The university’s main library houses a collection of more than 38,320 volumes, 93,629 microform items, and 1132 audio/video tapes/CDs, and subscribes to 1241 periodicals. Students have access to such databases and networks as Dialog, ABI/INFORM, and Business Periodicals On-Line. Other opportunities for research consist of the Interlibrary Loan Service and other document delivery systems.
Computers
Graduate business students must have their own PCs. Available computer facilities consist of Mac and Dell computers with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, and browser software available in the computer resource room during school hours.
Career and Job Placement
Placement services are limited, since most students are already employed full time. Placement services for alumni include alumni networks and faculty advising. Placement is available through the university placement office. Ninety-five percent of a recent graduating class found jobs within three months of receiving their degree.
International Students
International students must take the TOEFL and TWSE. They also must submit a translation of their transcripts, proof of health consisting of immunization records, and proof of adequate funds to cover the length of the program of study.
Calendar
The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 15 weeks long; summer sessions, 7 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the day and evening and weekends.
Antioch University-New England, Department of Organization & Management Admissions
A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 3.0. Most important admissions factors are management potential, motivation, and maturity. A strong mathematics background is not required.
The number of applicants for a recent class was 50; 47 were accepted; 26 enrolled. Transfers are accepted. Minority students are actively recruited by advertisements in catchment areas, newspapers, and 15,000 professional organizations.
Students may begin the MS and MEd programs in the fall and spring, Green MBA in the summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, a nonrefundable application fee of $50, 3 letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and a resume. An admissions interview is required. The application deadlines are August 1 for fall entry; December 1, spring; August 1, summer. Students are notified on a rolling basis of the admissions decision. Once accepted, students may defer admission for up to 1 year from the acceptance date.
Antioch University-New England, Department of Organization & Management Financial Aid
Stipends and programs available for minority students include include ethnic fellowships. The FAFSA is required. Check with the school for current application deadlines.
Tuition for all students is approximately $28,000 per year. Books and supplies cost approximately $700; and other fees, $300, for an estimated annual total of $29,000. Graduate student housing is not available on campus. There is a referral service to help procure off-campus housing.
Antioch University-New England, Department of Organization & Management Students
Seventy-six percent of a recent graduate business school class were enrolled full time; all had an average of 10 to 15 years of full-time work experience prior to entering graduate school, a factor preferred by the school. The greatest percentage of students were from the Northeast (98%). Seventy-seven percent were women, 4% were minorities, and 1% were foreign nationals. The average age at entrance was 41; ages ranged from 24 to 59. Students’ undergraduate majors were as follows: 50%, liberal arts; 20%, social sciences; 15%, business; 10%, engineering; and 5%, math and science. About 5% of entering students leave by the end of the first year due to academic or personal reasons; 90% remain to receive their degree. In a recent year, 41 graduate business degrees were awarded.
