Introduction

First instituted in 1961, the Allen School of Health Sciences is distinguished among healthcare training schools by its strong emphasis on fast-tracking students to completion of their programs. Classwork is generally full-time and moves students from beginning to accreditation in as little as six weeks. The Brooklyn branch of the school is one of three—there are also campuses in Queens and in Phoenix, Arizona.

Academics

With a focus on offering extensive training that prepares attendees for a life in the workforce, Allen School Brooklyn offers numerous programs with a technical focus as well as general education opportunities. The two main courses of study are the Nursing Assistant and Medical Assistant programs. For those interested in assisting individuals, whether in private care situations or in retirement homes, the Nursing Assistant program is the best fit. Courses include crucial skills for caring for individuals at all stages of life, and those who are interested in more certification can complete the Patient Care Technician certification, which includes Phlebotomy and EKG skills. For students interested in office work in a medical setting, the Medical Assistant programs are the best fit. The Medical Insurance and Billing program is offered online as well as on campus to meet the needs of distance learners.

Most Popular Fields of Study

Admissions

Admissions are non-competitive. Students must submit an application, including proof of high school diploma or GED. The school works closely with veteran applicants, who may use their military benefits for tuition

Students

The student body comes from a wide variety of backgrounds and includes traditional college students who are recent high school graduates, people of all ages with a GED, and mid-career adults who seek certification or additional training in their field.

There is a strong focus at ASB on placing program graduates in jobs in their chosen fields. They use an online system, Speed Staffing, which displays all graduates for potential employer. There are also strong opportunities to enroll in internship programs while attending classes. The employment services office offers their services to all their graduates for an unlimited span of time after graduation.

Student Enrollment Demographics

Athletics

Due to the short sessions for most programs at ASB, there are no varsity athletics. Occasionally students will organize club sports or intramural athletics, but these do not occur on a consistent basis.
