Academics

New York University (NYU) is the nation’s largest private university, comprised of 14 schools, colleges and divisions. One school in particular is the School of Continuing Education & Professional Studies (SCPS). Established in 1934, SCPS is NYU’s fourth largest graduate school, as well as its 5th largest undergraduate college. It offers over 10 graduate degrees, and more than 25 undergraduate degrees, which include associate, bachelor, and master degrees, as well as certificate programs, and diplomas.

The undergraduate program offered at SCPS is offered through a partnership with the Paul McGhee division. Accredited by the New York State Board of Education, students learn about a variety of courses through theory and practice. Associate and bachelor degrees are offered in many fields. Choices include a Bachelor of Art in humanities, or social sciences; and, a Bachelor of Science in one of the following: digital communication & media, information systems management, healthcare management, real estate, or leadership & management studies. Students may also earn several associate degrees such as an Associate in Art in Liberal Arts, or an Associate in Applied Science in one of the following areas of study: business, health administration, information systems management, or diagnostic medical sonography. In addition, the Tisch Center (another sector of NYU), offers a specialized program for undergraduates who are looking to obtain a Bachelor of Science in either hotel tourism & management, or sports management.

SCPC’s graduate program offers graduate degrees, certificates, and diplomas. Students can pursue a master’s degree in any of the following areas of study: business, media industry studies & sign, real estate, philanthropy & fundraising, or global affairs. Graduate certificates are offered in business, and in real estate, while students may earn diplomas for paralegal studies, and credit analysis.

In addition, SCPS offers online classes, as well as online degree programs. Students may pursue master degrees, bachelor degrees, and graduate certificates. SCPS also offers over 2,000 continuing education courses for students interested in professional certificates in business, global affairs, liberal studies and allied arts, the media industry, and more.

Admissions

NYU’s School of Continuing Education & Professional Studies (SCPS) accepts graduate students and adult students wanting to further their education. Prospective students seeking graduate school admission are required to submit four letters of recommendation, along with a completed graduate application. Applications are available online, or students can print a paper-application to fill out and mail to the school.

The Paul McGhee Division is especially designed for adult students returning to school to complete an already started undergraduate degree or to begin earning credits toward a new degree program. Prospective students wanting to apply for undergraduate studies should fill out and complete an application for admission found online at the school website. Students are also required to take an admissions test if they have not completed 15 college credits in the past 5 years. In addition, prospective students should meet with an admissions counselor, and apply for financial aid if necessary.

Financial Aid

NYU’s School of Continuing Education & Professional Studies (SCPS) offers several financial assistance opportunities for qualifying students. Aid types available include scholarships, grants, loans, and payment plans. All students are required to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for financial assistance. The school’s website provides a detailed list of each aid available along with descriptions of each, as well as forms for all scholarships available.

Athletics

The Bobcats’ athletic teams are popular among students at New York University (NYU). Competing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the Eastern College Athletic Conference, NYU supports a total of 19 varsity sports teams for men and women. Men’s sports include basketball, cross country, fencing, soccer, golf, tennis, track & field, swimming & diving, wrestling, and volleyball. Women can also enjoy varsity sports through cross country, basketball, fencing, golf, swimming & diving, track & field, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.

In addition, NYU offers a variety of club sports such as badminton, racquetball, cheerleading, and softball, while offering intramural sports for students interested in competitive team play on a recreational level.
