SUNY College at Oneonta offers a range of undergraduate programs as well as a Prelaw concentration and graduate degrees in Education, Biology, Earth Science, History Museum Studies and Nutrition.

Admission to SUNY at Oneonta is based primarily upon prior academic success. SAT score, ACT score and grade point average are major factors. Additionally, the school prefers that incoming freshmen have successfully completed and excelled in a rigorous high school curriculum. Admission is competitive and most applicants to SUNY at Oneonta are not admitted.

Applicants must submit a completed application form, high school transcripts, any college transcripts, SAT/ACT scores and an application fee. Incoming freshmen must also write an application essay and obtain a letter of recommendation from a high school counselor.

SUNY at Oneonta was founded in 1889 and is one of the original schools in the State University of New York system. Originally established as a school for future educators, today SUNY at Oneonta offers a complete liberal arts program.

The school’s main campus encompasses more than 250 acres and 30 buildings. Additionally, the biology program’s Biological Field Station has 2,600 acres on Otsego Lake, and the museum studies program has a 284-acre facility near the main campus.

SUNY at Oneonta provides several student housing options. Many of the school’s fifteen residence halls offer special-interest wings, so students may live near others who share their academic pursuits and other interests. Additionally, Higgins Hall provides apartment-like housing for those students seeking a change from traditional residence halls.

SUNY at Oneonta’s James M. Milne library features hundreds of thousands of books, hundreds of periodicals and an extensive collection of online research databases. The library is usually open every day during the fall and winter semesters, with reduced hours in the spring and summer.

Hundreds of computers are available across several facilities, including a 24-hour computer lab. Wi-fi wireless connectivity is available campus wide.

SUNY at Oneonta has dozens of academic, athletic and social student organizations, including student government, a theater club, a poetry slam club, academic clubs, and many student groups dedicated to political and social causes. The school also offers a student newspaper, literary journal, radio and television stations. Additionally, the Hunt College Union supports social events throughout the year.

Several sororities and fraternities are active on campus and provide many social and academic activities for their members. Sororities include Sigma Gamma Phi, Pi Delta Chi, Phi Sigma Sigma, Sigma Delta Tau and Mu Sigma Upsilon. Fraternities include Chi Phi, Phi Kappa Psi, Tau Kappa Epsilon and Phi Beta Sigma.

A fitness center is available on campus for all students. Facilities include a pool, gymnasium, exercise equipment and racquetball courts.

SUNY College at Oneonta Athletics

The SUNY at Oneonta Red Dragons have men’s and women’s teams in basketball, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis and track & field. Additional women’s sports include softball, field hockey and volleyball; other men’s sports include baseball and wrestling.

The school plays in the following athletic conferences: NCAA Division III, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference, New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCCA) and SUNY.

SUNY at Oneonta offers more club sports than most schools: cricket, fencing, equestrian sports, dance, mountain biking, racquetball, ice hockey, cheerleading, women’s rubgy, tae kwon do, men’s volleyball and other intramural sports.
