SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome, School of Business History
State University of New York/Institute of Technology, founded in 1966, is a public, coeducational institution. The 850-acre campus is located in a suburban area 2 miles north of Utica. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 2590.
The School of Business was founded in 1984 and is located on the main campus. The basic educational approach is to provide opportunities for concentrated study in both the quantitative and behavioral aspects of management.Technology management is an integral part of the program.
SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome, School of Business Academics
The School of Business offers the Master of Business Administration in Technology Management (MBA), Master of Science in Accountancy (MSAcc), and Master of Science in Health Services Administration (MSHSA). Other programs include work-study and optional internships. The strongest areas of study are technology management, accounting and finance, and human resource management. The most popular courses are Quantitative Business Analysis, Cases in Technology and Innovation Management, and Management Information Systems. Regular programs bring distinguished speakers and visiting professors to campus.
Forty-eight total credits are required to complete the MBA in Technology Management including 0-9 specialized credits. Required courses for the MBA in Technology Management include:

Students may eliminate or substitute requirements.
Business students may take relevant nonbusiness courses in other departments. The minimum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 1 year; maximum, 7 years. For students attending part time, the minimum is 2 years; maximum, 7 years.
There are 19 total full-time graduate business faculty, of whom 83% hold a doctorate.

Library
The university’s main library houses a collection of more than 192,425 volumes and 200,298 microform items, and subscribes to 1090 periodicals. Students have access to databases and networks in the fields of business and allied subject areas.
Computers
Graduate business students need not have their own PCs. The business school has its own computer facilities, consisting of 2 School of Management labs. In addition, all students may use the Mohawk lab, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; there are numerous other labs across campus. More than 200 PCs and more than 100 Windows-based and UNIX-based applications are available in the labs.
International Students
International students must take the TOEFL. International students must score 550 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT). They also must submit a translation of their transcripts, proof of health, and proof of adequate funds. There are special fees of $687 per year for health insurance.
Calendar
The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 15 weeks long; summer sessions, 4 to 8 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the day and evening and weekends.
SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome, School of Business Admissions
A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 3.0. The formula for using the GPA and GMAT scores is (200 x GPA) + GMAT, or minimum 1000. Most important admissions factors are GMAT results, grades in upper-level courses, and letters of recommendation. A strong mathematics background is not required.
The number of applicants for the 2006-2007 class was 148; 94 were accepted; 75 enrolled. Transfers are accepted. Minority students are actively recruited.
Students may begin the MBA program in the fall and spring. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, GMAT scores, a nonrefundable application fee of $50, and 1 letter of recommendation. Students are notified on a rolling basis of the admissions decision. Once accepted, students may defer admission which is approved on a case-by-case basis.
SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome, School of Business Financial Aid
The FAFSA and the school’s own financial statement are required. The application deadline is rolling for fall entry.
Tuition for in-state residents is $296 per credit, or $7100 per year. Nonresidents pay $473 per credit, or $11,340 per year. On-campus room and board costs approximately $7600; and other fees, $927, for an estimated annual total of $15,627 for in-state residents and $19,867 for out-of-state residents. Graduate student housing is available on campus in either single- or double-bedroom apartments. There is a referral service to help procure off-campus housing.
SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica-Rome, School of Business Students
Twenty-nine percent of the current graduate business school class are enrolled full time; 70% have had an average of 2 to 5 years of full-time work experience prior to entering graduate school, a factor preferred by the school. The greatest percentage of students are from New York (88%). Forty-eight percent are women, 12% are minorities, and 5% are foreign nationals. The average age at entrance is 34; ages range from 22 to 68. Twenty percent enter directly from undergraduate school. In 2006, 73 graduate business degrees were awarded.
