The Juilliard School Summary
The following paragraph provided courtesy of wikipedia.
The Juilliard School is one of the world’s premiere performing arts conservatories located in New York City. In 1920, the Juilliard Foundation was created, named after textile merchant Augustus Juilliard who bequeathed a substantial amount for the advancement of music in the United States. Established in 1924, the foundation’s Juilliard Graduate School merged with the Institute of Musical Art two years later. As of 1946, the combined schools were named The Juilliard School of Music. While attending Juilliard Summer School, he developed a personal distaste for traditional music theory and ear training curricula, finding little value in counterpoint and dictation. Shortly after being selected as President of The Juilliard School, William Schuman created a new curricula called “The Literature and Materials of Music” (L&M) designed to be taught by Composers. William Schuman resigned his position as President of The Juilliard School after being elected President of Lincoln Center in 1962. In September 2005, Sir Colin Davis conducted an orchestra which combined students from the Juilliard and London’s Royal Academy of Music at the BBC Proms. Highlights from the 2005-2006 performance season include the performance of Luciano Berio’s Folk Songs with soprano Sarah Wolfson in Alice Tully Hall as part of Juilliard’s annual Alice Tully Vocal Arts Debut Recital and a debut recital featuring Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s Trageodia, Toru Takemitsu’s Treeline, Anton Webern’s Concerto (Op. Upcoming performances include March 28-April 1, 2007 when AXIOM will perform Bohuslav Martinu’s Field Mass and David Lang’s Increase in collaboration with the dance division on their Spring Dances at Juilliard series. The then-current President of Juilliard, Peter Mennin, resurected the Preparatory Department as the Pre-College Division, with Olegna Fuschi as its Director. The Pre-College Division gives Juilliard an important role in training the most talented young musicians at the highest musical standards. Juilliard Pre-College’s graduates are counted amongst professional musicians, educated concert goers and financial supporters of Classical Music. See main article List of Juilliard School people The Juilliard Second Century Fund will raise $300 million to enable The Juilliard School to sustain its leadership position in performing arts education well into the School’s next century. Expanded and renamed on the occasion of Juilliard’s 100th anniversary, the fund supports six key components that will help Juilliard continue to recruit the world’s best young artists and faculty, offer educational programs that uphold the quality of a Juilliard education, and increase the size and functionality of Juilliard’s physical plant. In 2005, Juilliard produced its own benefit concert for the Pre-College Division featuring its own students led by faculty member Itzhak Perlman and hosted by Bill Cosby to add to this fund.

Hi I'm Justin From Philippines. I've heard about this school from one of my friends. I read everything about Juilliard and I find quite interesting. I'm a first year college student 16 years old and my college course is bachelor of music major in violin. I've also heard that this school is the best music school in the world. I hope that someday I may study in Juilliard so that I may be able to enhance my violin skills. I dont know if I am really talented because I just started playing the violin like a year and a half ago. I hope that when I get a chance to study in Juilliard I may improve my skills because my dream is to become a full-time violinist as I grow up. =)

ACTING STUDENTS! Have fun in your audition! Remember that it is your two minutes, and they are taking time to listen to you! I was not called back for their drama department, but I feel as though the experience was definitely a positive one, and it was one of my best auditions. Have fun and be yourself.

brittany m. daydreamer188 ((at)) gmail dot com
My name is brittany and I go to mesquite high school in arizona. I do love to sing but feel that it isnt good enough. My grades arent well but the one thing I love and believe nobody can take away from me is my gift of singing. I've been told Im the best singer that my friends have ever heard but to me it doesnt mean much unless I get an outsider's point of view. I believe that realitives and friends can be biased. I was in choir in 8th grade and am now in my junior year of high school. I am positive that next year I am going to take concert choir again. My friends have told me to tryout for american idol and even though I do not enjoy that show that much I will tryout because it would be a great opportunity for me. I am trying my best to raise my grades and my parents are putting pressure on me to do better. I have never done bad in school (grades wise) but sophomore year I did. I was very dissapointed in myself. So this year I have started out badly but am planning to raise my grades. Last year while taking the AIM's I met the standards on reading and math and approched the standards in writting. So I plan to take them all over again in hopes of getting exceeds on all. I will try my best and I will do everything I can to get accepted into juilliard. Singing is my life and sometimes the only thing that keeps me going. It's my secret place. When I say secret place I mean its like a safe harbor for me. It is my life.

My name is Jennifer Hudson, and singing has been my passion since I learned to talk. I started playing guitar at the age of 10. since then it has been all that I am interested in as well as singing. I have done acting before in a few plays but I still need to get the hang of it. As for my guitar skills I have taught myself everything I know (with a little help along the way) and my singing skills are accelerating higher and higher. I sang in front of my drama class as well as the drama club twice. I have just recently found out about Julliard and ever since then, it has been the school that i dream to go to.
