Baldwin-Wallace College, MBA Program History

Baldwin-Wallace College, founded in 1845, is a private, coeducational institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The 56-acre campus is located in a suburban area 14 miles southwest of Cleveland. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is apptoximately 5000.

The MBA Program was founded in 1973 and is located on the main campus. Courses also are offered at our eastside satellite located in Beachwood, Ohio in the Landmark Centre Building. The basic educational approach is broad and interdisciplinary. The program is designed to produce managers who know and understand all aspects of their corporate or organizational domain.

Baldwin-Wallace College, MBA Program Academics

The MBA Program offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA), International Master of Business Administration (IMBA), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), Health Care Executive Master of Business Administration (HCEMBA), Master of Business Administration in Accounting (AMBA), and Master of Business Administration in Human Resources (HRMBA). Other programs include internships for full-time IMBA students. Regular programs bring distinguished speakers and visiting professors to campus. The Kamm Lecture series brings business professionals to campus and the Spahr Lecture brings professionals who speak about ethical issues facing business organizations.

Forty total credits are required to complete the MBA. Required courses include:

Students may eliminate or substitute requirements by having the appropriate background to waive the first 3 survey courses.

The minimum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 1 year; maximum, 4 years. For students attending part time, the minimum is 2 years; maximum, 4 years.

In a recent year there were 22 total full-time graduate business faculty, of whom 68% hold a doctorate; there were 28 part-time faculty, of whom 18% hold a doctorate. Faculty salaries are rated above average for Category IIB institutions, based on the AAUP rating system. Average number of courses faculty teach is 4; average business class size is 25.

Library

The university’s main library houses a collection of more than 200,000 volumes and 5000 microform items, and subscribes to 1000 periodicals. Students have access to such databases and networks as ABI/INFORM, Business and Company Resource Center, Business and Industry, Standard & Poor’s Net Advantage, and Value Line Investment Survey.

Computers

Graduate business students need not have their own PCs. The business school has its own computer facilities, consisting of an IBM RISC 6000, supporting up to 60 concurrent users with Internet capability and dial-up modems. Workstations are open evenings and weekends.

Career and Job Placement

Placement services are extensive and are available through the university placement office.

International Students

International students must take the TOEFL, the Comprehensive English Language Test, or the college’s own test. International students must score 500 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT) or 61 on the Internet-Based (iBT) version. They also must submit a translation of their transcripts and proof of adequate funds to cover 1 year of study. Financial aid is available for these students and consists of a graduate assistantship total award of $5,000 to qualified students.

Calendar

The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 15 weeks long; summer sessions, 12 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the day and evening and weekends.

Baldwin-Wallace College, MBA Program Admissions

A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 3.0 and a GMAT score of 500. The formula for using the GPA and GMAT scores is (200 x cumulative undergraduate GPA) + GMAT, or minimum 1000. Most important admissions factors are academic accomplishments and ability, a successful interview, and work experience. A strong mathematics background is not required.

The average GMAT score was 503. Transfers are accepted. Minority students are actively recruited by the director of the IMBA program. The number of applicants for the 2006-2007 class was 168; 151 were accepted; 118 enrolled. The average GPA was 3.0; average GMAT score was 490. Transfers are excepted. Minority students are actively recruited through the director of the IMBA program.

Students may begin the MBA program in the fall, spring, and summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, GMAT scores a nonrefundable application fee of $25, 2 letters of recommendation, and a resume. The application deadlines are June 25 for fall entry; October 13, spring; February 24, summer. Students are notified on a rolling basis of the admissions decision. Once accepted, students may defer admission. Students can start in the fall, spring, or summer, except for the EXMBA and the Health Care MBA, in which classes start once a year.

Baldwin-Wallace College, MBA Program Financial Aid

About 39% of graduate business school students receive financial aid for scholorships, loans, and graduate assistantships, for a total average of $21,669 annually; maximum $37,386. The FAFSA is required. Check with the school for current application deadlines.

Tuition for all students is $760 per credit, or $15,200 per year. On-campus room and board costs approximately $4500; books and supplies, $1100; personal expenses, $5000, for an estimated annual cost of $23,400. Graduate student housing consists of campus apartments with 1 or 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a bath.

Baldwin-Wallace College, MBA Program Students

Sixty-three percent of the current vusiness school classes are enrolled full time. The greatest percentage of students are from Ohio (99%). Fifty-four percent are women, 11% are minorities, and 5% are foreign nationals. The average age at entrance is 27; ages range from 24 to 40. One percent already have a graduate degree. About 5% of entering students leave by the end of the first year due to academic or personal reasons; 95% remain to receive their degree. In 2006, 174 graduate business degrees were awarded.
