Ohio State University-Lima Campus Academics

Founded in 1960 as a liberal arts college, Ohio State University – Lima Campus is one of four regional campuses of Ohio State University. The campus is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and has baccalaureate program accreditation with NCATE. The Lima campus offers 8 bachelor’s degree programs as well as 3 degree completion programs. Students can also choose from more than 160 majors, which can be started at Lima and finished at the Columbus campus. Some of the programs that are offered at this campus include Sociology, Psychology, Dental Hygiene, Chemistry, Business, Computer Science & Engineering, Allied Health Professions, Nursing, Music, and Education. Ohio State is ranked 18th in the United States for public schools and is ranked first in the state of Ohio.

Ohio State University – Lima Campus offers flexible class schedules that include a full daytime schedule, extended evening hours, and some weekend classes. The campus also offers small class sizes; the average class size is 21. Eight of the faculty members at this school have won the university’s prestigious Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. There is also a special honors program for exceptional students.

Ohio State University-Lima Campus Admissions

The Ohio State University at Lima has an open enrollment policy. This means that all Ohio residents who have graduated from high school or earned a GED, and have not attended any other post-secondary school, will be admitted. Students who wish to apply to Ohio State University – Lima Campus, must complete the online or print application form. There is an application fee to apply to this college. Each applicant must also submit an official high school transcript or GED score report, a College Prep Form, an official SAT or ACT score report (optional, but strongly recommended for scholarship consideration and for placement purposes), and any AP or college credit transcripts (where applicable). Letters of recommendation are not required. Certain special programs also have additional requirements. While students are admitted to the college all year long, deadlines vary by term and prospective students should contact the school for specific deadline dates.

Adult students, non-degree seeking students, transfer students, home-schooled students, and international students may need to use different procedures, so they should refer to the university’s website or contact the Office of Admission for more information about the admissions process and application requirements. Financial Aid

The majority of the students at Ohio State University – Lima Campus receive some form of state, federal, private or institutional financial assistance. Most of the students who applied for financial aid were awarded need-based financial assistance. Forms of aid that are available for students at Ohio State University – Lima Campus include grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study. The college also offers a limited number of scholarships and grants for students. Some are based on merit; others require applicants to demonstrate evidence of financial need. The OSU- Lima General Scholarship Application and the Arthur & Marian Rudd Full Scholarship Application are available on the school’s website. All students who wish to be considered for financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA should be submitted as soon as possible after January 1st each year. Students can file the FAFSA even if their or their parents’ taxes are not completed by using estimates and making corrections after they file their tax returns.

The absolute deadline date for completing the FAFSA application is May 1. If selected for verification, students will also need to complete a Federal Verification Worksheet and/or submit additional documents. Students who wish to pay the in-state tuition rate may need to provide additional documentation in order to establish residency.

Students are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid Office for more information and assistance with completing the financial aid application process. Students should also note that financial aid applications must be renewed each year. Ohio State University – Lima Campus also offers a deferred payment plan to help students pay any tuition charges that are not covered by financial aid.

Athletics

Known as the Barons, the college’s athletic teams proudly wear the school’s colors of scarlet and gray and are cheered on by their mascot, Barons. Men’s varsity sports include baseball, basketball, golf, and volleyball. Women’s varsity sports include basketball, golf, and volleyball. Students can also choose to participate in the school’s intramural and recreational sports programs. Intramural sports include flag football, basketball, whiffleball, soccer, and volleyball.

The Hangar in Cook Hall is a gymnasium that is open to all of the school’s athletes, students, faculty, and staff. Volleyball, basketball, and many intramurual activities are played here. There are new state of the art scoreboards. There is also a weight room with modern exercise machines such as a stair stepper, fan bikes, a butterfly press, and a leg flexron. It also has free weights that include an incline bench, a squat rack, dumbells, a curl bar and bench press, and a pulldown press. There is also a baseball diamond that is located between Biddle Drive and Campus Drive.
