Oklahoma City University, Meinders School of Business/Graduate Programs History
Oklahoma City University, founded in 1904, is a private, coeducational institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The 90-acre campus is located in an urban area within Oklahoma City. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 3713.
The Meinders School of Business/Graduate Programs was founded in 1962 and is located on the main campus, in its own building, Meinders School of Business. Courses also are offered at Tinker AFB for accelerated MBA program for working executives; out-of-country MBA programs are also available. The basic educational approach is to offer a broad-based MBA program in which a global or international emphasis is the heart of the program.
Oklahoma City University, Meinders School of Business/Graduate Programs Academics
The School of Business offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) as well as a joint degree in law (MBA/JD). Other programs include work-study programs, interdisciplinary programs in public management and integrated marketing communications, foreign exchange, and internships. The strongest areas of study are generalist finance and information technology. The most popular courses are Marketing, Organizational Behavior, and International and Multinational Business. Regular programs bring distinguished speakers and visiting professors to campus. The Distinguished Speakers Series brings nationally recognized speakers to campus twice a year.
Thirty-six total credits are required to complete the MBA, including 9 elective credits. Required courses include:

Students may eliminate or substitute requirements by transferring up to 6 semester hours.
Business students may take relevant nonbusiness courses in other departments. The minimum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 1 year; maximum, 6 years. For students attending part time, the minimum is 21 months; maximum, 6 years.
There are 27 total full-time graduate business faculty, of whom 93% hold a doctorate; there are 13 part-time faculty, of whom 52% hold a doctorate. Average number of credit hours faculty teach is 24; average business class size is 19.

Library
The university’s main library houses a collection of more than 440,374 volumes, 975,580 microform items, and 10,948 audio/video tapes/CDs, and subscribes to 6017 periodicals. Students have access to such databases and networks as ProQuest. Other opportunities for research consist of the B.D. Eddie Research Center and the Love’s Entrepreneur Center.
Computers
Graduate business students need not have their own PCs. The business school has its own computer facilities, consisting of a computer lab housing 20 PCs. Software includes Microsoft Office, Visual Studio, and FrontPage. E-mail and Internet access are available. The center is open to all students, faculty, and staff in the business school, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Career and Job Placement
Majors most in demand by companies recruiting in 2006 were finance, marketing, accounting, and management information systems. Placement services are extensive. Placement services for alumni include the same as for students. Placement is available through the university placement office and law career services. Eighty-five percent of the most recent graduating class found jobs within three months of receiving their degree.
International Students
International students must take the TOEFL or demonstrate Level 109 completion from the ELS Language Center. They also must submit a translation of their transcripts, proof of health consisting of a TB test upon arrival, and proof of adequate funds to cover 1 year of study. There are special fees of $550 for health insurance, a $120 advising processing fee, and a $120 immigration processing fee. The application deadline for fall entry is open.
Calendar
The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 16 weeks long; summer sessions, 6 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the day and evening.
Oklahoma City University, Meinders School of Business/Graduate Programs Admissions
A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 2.5. Most important admissions factors are grades in upper-level courses, academic accomplishments and ability, and letters of recommendation. A strong mathematics background is not required.
333 students enrolled in the 2006-2007 class. Transfers are accepted. Minority students are actively recruited.
Students may begin the MBA program in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, a nonrefundable application fee of $30, and 2 letters of recommendation. The application deadlines are rolling. Students are notified 1 week after receipt of all documents of the admissions decision. Once accepted, students may defer admission for up to 1 semester.
Oklahoma City University, Meinders School of Business/Graduate Programs Financial Aid
In a recent year, about 41% of graduate business school students receive financial aid from scholarships, loans, and graduate assistantships, for a total average of $11,253 annually; maximum $14,733. The FAFSA is required. Check with the school for current application deadlines.
Tuition for all students is $710 per credit. On-campus room and board costs approximately $6560; books and supplies, $900; personal expenses, $1900, for an estimated annual total of $22,140. Graduate student housing consists of on-campus residence halls and apartments.
Oklahoma City University, Meinders School of Business/Graduate Programs Students
Seventy-one percent of the current graduate business school class are enrolled full time. The greatest percentage of students are from Oklahoma (55%). Thirty-nine percent are women, 14% are minorities, and 42% are foreign nationals. The average age at entrance is 27; ages range from 21 to 63. About 27% of entering students leave by the end of the first year due to academic or personal reasons; 67% remain to receive their degree. In 2006, 442 graduate business degrees were awarded.
