Carson-Newman College is a historically Baptist liberal arts college located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, northeast of Knoxville. In addition to the overall institutional accreditation by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, many individual majors and programs are nationally accredited. Carson-Newman College was founded in 1851 as the Mossy Creek Missionary Baptist Seminary. The College officially became Carson-Newman College in 1888 upon the joining of the all-male Carson College with the all-female Newman College. The school has graduated 50 professional football players, 6 of whom are currently playing in the National Football League, Canadian Football League, Arena Football League, and NFL Europa.
