The Southern College of Optometry is a renowned college of optometry in the United States. SCO is a private institution founded in 1932, and it is one of only 17 schools of optometry in the U.S. Over the years there have been attempts to merge Southern College with a public institution in Memphis, either the University of Tennessee Health Science Center or the University of Memphis, but these efforts have never been successful. Portions adopted from: http://theeyecenter.sco.edu The three-story Eye Center at Southern College of Optometry is believed to be the largest single-specialty health care facility of its kind in North America.
