Texas A&M University/Texarkana, founded in 1971, is a public, coeducational institution. The 1-acre campus is located in an urban area in Texarkana. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 1670.

The College of Business was founded in 1972 and is located on the main campus. The basic educational approach is to emphasize qualitative methods, case study, theory, and field experiences to produce general managers.

The College of Business offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA), and Master of Science in Accounting (MSA). Other programs include interdisciplinary programs in accounting, finance, management, and business administration. The strongest area of study is business administration.

Thirty-six total credits are required to complete the MBA; including 6 to 12 elective credits depending on the program. Required courses include:

Students may transfer 12 hours of previous graduate coursework if approved by an advisor.

The minimum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 1 year.

There are 10 total full-time graduate business faculty, of whom 90% hold a doctorate; there are 48 part-time faculty, of whom 38% hold a doctorate. Average number of credit hours faculty teach is 24.

Library

The John F. Moss Library houses a collection of more than 132,065 volumes and 360 audio/video tapes/CDs, and subscribes to 6561 periodicals. Students have access to such databases and networks as Academic Search Primer, Business and Company Resource Center, Business Source Primer, Computer Source: Consumer Edition, eLibrary, Expanded Academic ASAP, Key Business Rations, LexisNexis Academic Universe, Lexis/Nexis Statistical Universe, Mergent Online Newspaper Source, Regional Business News, Research Library, Science Direct, Wilson OmniFile Full Text Mega Edition, Net Advantage, and Hoover’s Online. Other opportunities for research consist of interlibrary loan and consortium arrangements.

Computers

Graduate business students need not have their own PCs.There are no separate computer facilities for College of Business students.

Career and Job Placement

Placement services are limited, since most students are already employed full time, and are available through the university placement office.

International Students

International students must take the TOEFL. International students must score 550 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT) or 79 on the Internet-Based (iBT) version. They also must submit a translation of their transcripts and proof of adequate funds to cover 2 years of study. There is a special fee of $25 for the application process. The application deadline for fall entry is 2 months prior to the beginning of the semester.

Calendar

The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 16 weeks long; summer sessions, 5 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the day and evening and weekends.

A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 2.5. Most important admissions factors are grades in upper-level courses, letters of recommendation, and essays. A strong mathematics background is not required.

The number of applicants for the 2006-2007 class was 82; 75 were accepted; 73 enrolled. Transfers are accepted. Minority students are actively recruited.

Students may begin the MBA program in the fall, spring, and summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, transcripts, 3 letters of recommendation, a resume, and a personal essay of life and professional experiences. The application deadlines are July 15 for fall entry; December 1, spring; April 15, summer. Students are notified of the admissions decision when the admissions file is complete. Once accepted, students may defer admission and must meet admission to graduate program requirements by the end of the first enrolled semester.

Texas A & M University-Texarkana, College of Business Financial Aid

The FAFSA, the school’s own financial statement, and the previous year’s tax return are required. Check with the school for current deadlines.

Tuition for in-state students is $2347 per year. Nonresidents pay $7297 per year. Books and supplies cost approximately $968; personal expenses, $1574, for an estimated annual total of $4889 for in-state residents and $9839 for out-of-state residents. Graduate student housing is not available on campus.
