The pre-professional programs are unique in that they address a wide range of career options including pre-law, pre-athletic trainer, pre-seminary and pre-veterinary medicine. These programs differ in length depending upon the goal of the program. Many are designed to prepare students for advanced graduate or doctorate degrees that will take many years to achieve.

There are also several interesting programs at WBU that provide even more academic opportunities to students. These programs allow the student to form close bonds with peers and faculty while promoting quality education through innovative methods.

Admissions

Just like everything else at Wayland Baptist University, admissions is an individualized process targeted at each entering student. Staff are readily available to help out with questions and provide assistance throughout the admissions process. The university has an open enrollment policy and students that meet the minimum requirements will be admitted. There are different admissions requirements that are dependent upon what type of student is applying.

In order to keep the entire campus healthy, all students must submit a completed medical form and proof of vaccination prior to attending class. Only the meningitis vaccination is required (except for international students, who are also required to take the TB test) but standard childhood immunizations are recommended.

Freshmen Applicants

Freshmen students that have never attended college before will apply as first-year, credit-seeking students and will need to submit the application and required fee along with official ACT or SAT scores. Wayland Baptist does not use the writing section of the SAT for admissions purposes. Finally, a high school transcript from an accredited high school showing minimum college-preparatory classes must be supplied.

Transfer Students

Transfer students also need to submit the application and fee but do not need to submit high school transcripts or ACT/SAT scores unless they have completed less than 24 transferable credit hours at an accredited institution. Those students that have completed 24 or more credit hours will need to submit official transcripts from all institutions attended.

Students that have previously attended WBU and wish to resume study at the college must apply for readmission. There is no application fee but students will need to submit transcripts from all institutions attended since leaving Wayland.

High School Applicants

High school students that would like to get a head start on college will need to submit all of the documents required for first-year students and will also need to submit a concurrent enrollment agreement signed by the student, principal or counselor, Wayland’s Vice President for Academic Services, and the Registrar. Students must have completed two-thirds of the credits required for graduation from high school before they may concurrently enroll at WBU.

Non-Degree Seeking Students

Finally, transient students or students wishing to enroll in self-improvement courses either for personal or professional enrichment must simply submit the application. Both must enroll as non-degree seeking students and this status must be declared each semester. Students who wish to attend classes without obtaining credit (auditing) simply need to submit the application along with a course audit form. Instructor approval is required and approval will not be finalized until the first day of classes because audits are granted on a space-available basis. Tuition is significantly lower for audits and students should be aware that there are no refunds if the class is dropped.

Financial Aid

Wayland Baptist University offers many different financial aid options including scholarships, grants, federally-subsidized loans and work-study programs. Students wishing to apply for financial aid must begin the process by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that is available online starting in January.
