St. Michael's College, Graduate Programs in Administration History
Saint Michael’s College, founded in 1904, is a private, coeducational institution affiliated with the Catholic Church. The 400-acre campus is located in a suburban area 5 miles northeast of Burlington. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 2500.
The Graduate Programs in Administration was founded in 1979 and is located on the main campus. The basic educational approach is a practitioner-oriented, theory-based curriculum that focuses on private, public, and nonprofit sectors. It stresses the management and administration of resources so that the best decisions can be made. Work experience is a requirement so that students can practice and apply the theory and participate fully in class discussions, simulations, and assignments.
St. Michael's College, Graduate Programs in Administration Academics
The Administration and Management program offers the Master of Science in Administration (MSA). Other programs include an 18-credit self-designed postgraduate Certificate of Advanced Management Study. The strongest area of study is management.
Forty-six total credits are required to complete the MSA, including 15 elective credits. Required courses for the MSA include:

Students may eliminate or substitute requirements with previous undergraduate coursework or examinations. Students may reduce required credit or replace a limited number of required courses with electives.
Business students may take relevant nonbusiness courses in other departments. The maximum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full or part time is 7 years.
There are 6 part-time faculty, of whom 50% hold a doctorate. Faculty salaries are rated above average for Category IIB institutions, based on the AAUP rating system. Average number of courses faculty teach is 3; average business class size is 11.

Library
The university’s main library houses a collection of more than 210,800 volumes, 10,000 microform items, and 6190 audio/video tapes/CDs, and subscribes to 3324 periodicals. Students have access to such databases and networks as Lexis/Nexis, National Trade Data Bank, Value Line, ProQuest Research Library, EconLit, PAIS, Dissertation Abstracts, OCLC, PsycInfo, ERIC, Business and Management Practices, and CIAO. Other opportunities for research consist of several dozen specialized databases and full-text on-line journals.
Computers
Graduate business students need not have their own PCs. Available computer facilities include 9 PC labs. Through Mikenet students have access to the Internet, Microsoft Office Professional, Microsoft Exchange, SPSS and Minitab, and Internet Explorer. Hours vary according to academic need.
Career and Job Placement
Placement services are limited, since most students are already employed full time. Placement services available to alumni include resume services, interviewing, assessment, and job postings and contacts. Placement is available through the university placement office.
International Students
International students must take the TOEFL. They also must submit a translation of their transcripts, proof of health consisting of a health assessment form with proof of immunization, and proof of adequate funds. The application deadline for fall entry is open.
Calendar
The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 15 weeks long; summer sessions, 11 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the evening only and weekends.
St. Michael's College, Graduate Programs in Administration Admissions
A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 2.8. Most important admissions factors are work experience, academic accomplishments and ability, and letters of recommendation. A strong mathematics background is not required.
The number of applicants for the 2006-2007 class was 20; 18 were accepted; 16 enrolled. The average GPA was 3.0. Transfers are accepted.
Students may begin the MBA program in the fall, spring, and summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, a nonrefundable application fee of $35, 2 letters of recommendation, an essay, and a resume. The application deadline is open for fall entry. Students are notified on a rolling basis of the admissions decision. Check with the school for the current application deadlines.

The FAFSA, the school’s own financial statement, and the previous year’s tax return are required. Check with the school for current application deadlines.
Tuition for all students is $435 per credit. Books and supplies cost approximately $800; personal expenses, $1200 Graduate student housing is limited.
St. Michael's College, Graduate Programs in Administration Students
Twelve percent of the current graduate business school class are enrolled full time. The greatest percentage of students are from Vermont (93%). Fifty-eight percent are women, 4% are minorities, and 9% are foreign nationals. The average age at entrance is 34; ages range from 22 to 59. Five percent enter directly from undergraduate school. About 1% of entering students leave by the end of the first year due to academic or personal reasons; 71% remain to receive their degree. In 2006, 29 graduate business degrees were awarded.
