The University of Wisconsin-Parkside (also known as UW-Parkside) is a regional, state supported, comprehensive public institution located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, immediately south of Racine, Wisconsin, in the center of the Chicago-Milwaukee Conurbation, and just a mile from the Lake Michigan shoreline. The University was an original outgrowth of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which expanded its educational offerings to the southeastern Wisconsin region with the opening of the 4-year institution. In 1971, when the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin State Universities merged, UW-Parkside became part of the University of Wisconsin System.
