Getting through pharmacy school with less debt is every pharmacy student’s goal. No student wants the burden of college loans. Pharmacy students have plenty of financial aid opportunities. It is just a matter of knowing where to look.
Most colleges and schools of pharmacy offer a variety of scholarships in addition to general scholarships for its students. Interested students should speak with financial aid representatives as well as office staff in the pharmacy school to find out what scholarships are available.
Pharmacy students can also seek outside scholarships by searching the Internet. Corporations, foundations, and professional organizations offer scholarships specific to those pursuing pharmacy degrees.
Free Money for Pharmacy Students
Obtaining scholarships to help pay for pharmacy school is a great supplement to a student’s financial aid package. It’s ‘free money’ and does not have to be repaid. Seeking scholarships doesn’t have to be difficult. First, start with the pharmacy school. Then seek outside scholarships which can be found using the Internet. With a little perseverance and research, pharmacy students can easily get through college with less debt.

At the University of Wisconsin—Madison pharmacy students have several scholarship opportunities offered through the School of Pharmacy. These scholarships are funded by alumni, the School of Pharmacy, as well as organizations and corporations. Awards are offered based on availability, therefore, amounts vary.
West Virginia University (WVU) offers several scholarships to qualifying students. Awards include the APhA Auxillary/APhA Foundation Pharmacy Student Scholarship. This program awards nine scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each every year to active members of APhA-ASP with outstanding academic achievements. A 500-word essay is required for consideration. Another scholarship offered at WVU is the Linda Anne Newman Pharmacy Scholarship. This award is given to pharmacy students who demonstrate financial need and outstanding academic achievements. Preferred recipients are graduates of Robert C. Byrd High School. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to be considered.
At the University of Toledo (UT), the College of Pharmacy offers a number of scholarships to its students. B.S.P.S. Outstanding Student Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship awarded to one student. Applicant must be a B.S.P.S. major with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Award amount varies. CVS/Pharmacy Scholarships are awarded to pharmacy students in their fourth and fifth year, interested in a career in retail pharmacy. The Discount Drug Mart Pharmacy Scholarship is awarded to students at the junior, senior, or graduate level, demonstrating financial need.
University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy offers a variety of endowed scholarships to qualifying students. The Albert C. Wehrenberg Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled with the university’s pharmacy school. Award amounts vary. The Henry D. and Ida Mosier Scholarship gives financial help to pharmacy students. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and academic success. Award amounts vary.
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation (NACDS) administers the Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program. These scholarships are offered through various colleges and pharmacy schools nationwide. Award amounts vary. NACDS also administers the Pharmacy Student Scholarship Program which awards over sixty scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each. Must be a full-time student to be considered.
The McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program —this scholarship is awarded to pharmacy students to assist them with financing their education. This award is renewable.
The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists & the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education offers the “Gateway to Research” scholarships to qualifying pharmacy students. Award amount is $5,000 each.
Health Alliance provides scholarships to students pursuing degrees in the healthcare industry. For pharmacy students, the company offers the Pharmacy Tuition Benefit Program. This tuition program is awarded to students enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program with two years of school remaining. In turn, recipients agree to work full-time for 18 months at Health Alliance upon graduation. Tuition benefits include $6,000 to use toward tuition, textbooks and fees.
Phi Lambda Sigma with Glaxo SmithKline and AFPE offer the First Year Graduate School Scholarship —awarded to outstanding students who are members of Phi Lambda Sigma, pursuing the pharmaceutical sciences graduate program. Award amount is $7,500.
