University of Texas at Austin Scholarships

The University of Texas at Austin is a public research university in the city of Austin, less than a mile from the Texas State Capitol. It currently holds the largest enrollment numbers of any Texas university. It is one of the original eight public ivy institutions and is a major center for various types of academic research. The University of Texas at Austin (UT) is also considered to be one of the most successful college sport universities. Sports Illustrated even named UT Austin “America’s Best Sports College” in 2002.

The University of Texas at Austin provides a wide variety of scholarships and financial aid opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students alike. Scholarships are highly competitive and very limited. The school provides plenty of general scholarships and financial aid opportunities, and students will typically find out if they are eligible once they have completed their FAFSA forms. Other original scholarships are available for university students through companies and organizations across the state of Texas.

Scholarships Offered by the University of Texas at Austin

The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program is for students who meet two of the four following eligibility requirements: graduating high school through the Distinguished Achievement Program or International Baccalaureate Program, have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher throughout the duration of their high school and college education, achieve a 1590 on the ACT or 23 on SAT tests, or be currently ranked in the top third section of their high school graduating class. The recipient will be in good standing with an ROTC program and have a four year commitment to the Texas Army or Air Force National Guard within six months after graduating from the university. Recipients must enter into a written binding agreement with the scholarship committee to complete all expected duties. Applicants must also be selected for this scholarship by a Texas Representative or Senator or the Governor or Lieutenant Governor.

The Strategic Name Development Scholarship requires students to come up with five original brand names that would be alternatives to the global market known as the Internet. Applicants must submit a 1,000 word essay explaining the reasoning behind each name choice and why they believe it would positively impact the industry along with their name, gender, age, email address, phone number, permanent address, college, year in school, major and cumulative grade point average. Applicants must be majoring in linguistics, marketing, mass communication or English with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Recipients will receive $2,500 and top priority for a summer internship program with Strategic Name Development. Students applying for this cannot be affiliated with the Strategic Name Development company in any way.

The Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists Scholarship is for graduate students majoring in any earth science related field. Any United States resident student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher is eligible. The application for this scholarship can be found at http://www.sipes.org.

Things to Note About University of Texas at Austin Scholarships

All University of Texas at Austin scholarships must be applied for at http://www.applytexas.org, and UT Austin chosen as the target university of choice. All admission, essay and scholarship questions should be completed according to the details explained on the website. The information must be submitted to the UT Austin Office of Student Financial Services at http://finaid.utexas.edu by the scholarship deadline date. Scholarships are kept track of by the Office of Student Financial Services, and students can find any information or changes regarding scholarships or financial aid through their office.

All scholarship applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee representatives and students will only be notified if they will be receiving any awards. The status of any applications can also be tracked at http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu.
