Baldwin Park Adult & Community Education Academics
Established in 1960, Baldwin Park Adult & Community Education serves about 13,000 students each year. A Program of Excellence Award winning California school, for its programs in career technical education, adult basic education, ESL and programs for older adults, Baldwin Park Adult & Community Education works to provide excellent services to its many adult learners. Baldwin Park student achievement encourages adult learners to study towards certificates, GED, and high school diplomas, as well as other academic and experiential learning programs. With a variety of student services and resources including academic and career counseling, Baldwin Park propels students towards success. The majority of Baldwin Park students come right from the surrounding community of the City of Baldwin Park and throughout the San Gabriel Valley. From community education courses, to technical career education, ABE/HSS, older adult education, health & fitness, parent education ESL and consumer awareness courses there is something for everyone at Baldwin Park.
Community connections are important at Baldwin Park, or BPACE, and classes can even be found in the area’s many recreational centers. Articulation agreements with local community colleges also form strong community ties and help students succeed in their continuing educations. Local businesses get involved at BPACE by providing student’s job-based learning opportunities. In fact, the campus Performing Arts Center puts on a variety of productions each and every year encouraging the campus and community to come together for exciting and unique cultural and artistic experiences like community theater, school rallies, cultural expositions, and other performances.
While at BPACE many students enroll in career technical education programs which prepare students for further study and provide industry ready certifications. Students at BPACE may choose from programs like medical assistant administrative & clinical, massage therapy, LVN, licensed pharmacy technician, medical assistant/clinical, medical assistant/administrative, insurance billing & coding, nurse assistant/pre-certification, business occupations/information technology center, accounting clerk/computerized accounting, automotive mechanic, child development/day care worker, residential & commercial electrician, computer support specialist, restaurant occupations, and cosmetology.
Not only certificate programs of study are available to adult learners. In addition, adult learners may enroll in programs like the high school diploma or GED awarding BPACE High School Subjects program. The object is not only to pass high school diploma or GED examinations, but to prepare students for college level studies in the future. As a State approved GED testing center, BPACE also offers Spanish language GED preparation. Classrooms come equipped with internet-connected computers for student use. Training is provided on programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Adult Independent Study programs are also available for any student unable to attend classes during regular hours in reading, math, writing, GED certificate and high school diploma. All adult learners are able to work with the full time BPACE counselors who will help with program placement and continuing academic guidance towards success such as vocational aptitude tests. Thos who pass the GED Exam participate in the cap and gown graduation in the Spring.
For those interested in ESL or English as a Second Language instruction, BPACE also offers an ESL and Citizenship Preparation program. Featuring comprehensive English language instruction through distance learning, community based tutoring and classroom instruction, students can work on any schedule that fits in with their busy lives. Both CBET and SCANS competencies are integrated into the program, as are English Literacy Civics and citizenship.
Parents in the Baldwin Park community can take advantage of great parenting workshops offered at BPACE. With courses and seminars like parenting the adolescent, family members interaction, helping your child succeed in school, parent education/family literacy, parent education/parent/child participation, and parenting the preschool, there is a course for every family unit. Special features include field trips, guest speakers, special events, ad program activities, as well as academic services like parenting workshops, one time trainings, on-going classes, and K-12 parent meetings/training.
Older Adults, or Baldwin Park Senior Citizens enjoy BPACE programs which provide important educational and recreational facets for older adults in the community. Classes are available in areas like health, the fine arts, and technology. Courses include Yoga, water aerobics, mental fitness, ceramics, studio pottery, introduction to Word/Excel, and photo editing.
