Central Florida College Academics

Originally known as the Career Training Institute and for several years operating under the auspices of an Ohio-based College of Barber Styling, Central Florida College has kept its focus on these very practical educational goals. Now the main campus of Central Florida College (the other campus is in Largo, FL), Winter Park is a place for local students to get an education in programs which vary from Allied Health degrees to Cosmetology diplomas.

CFC Winter Park receives its accreditation to award diplomas and associate degrees from the Accreditation Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (also known as the ACCSCT).

Since its founding in 1985, Central Florida has offered students a hands-on environment, whether they are working on the perfect hairstyle for a client or trying to fix a complex HVAC system. The Cosmetology program features constant practical applications on mannequins or live models. After the requirements for contact and application hours are completed, the student will be eligible to receive a license from the state of Florida to practice in any area.

Other major CFC programs are in the Allied Health Field. Associate of Science Degrees are being offered in Pharmacy Technology, Health Information Technology and Medical Assistant. Specialized programs in X-Ray Technology and Dental Assisting are also available, with the latter being offered through nearby Fortis College.

Allied Health Programs are accredited by the CAAHEP.

In addition, a fundamental education in HVAC Technology is also among CFC’s course offerings. After receiving instruction in class and apprenticing at a nearby workshop, students will become licensed technicians.

Central Florida College Admissions

The admissions process at Central Florida College is focused on engaging the student and getting to know his or her interests clearly. To that end, a personal information sheet will be filled out by any applicant so admissions officers can help them draw up the right course of study. High school diplomas are required of anyone hoping to attend Central Florida College (GED certificates are of course also accepted). Once an interview takes place and a student takes a tour of the campus facilities, a plan for curriculum can be drawn up.

Financial Aid

As with scholarships and admission to any college or university, the best way to see if your financial status makes you eligible for aid is to fill out all the forms accurately. Students are encouraged to make an appointment with a financial aid representative (937-433-3410) to start the process.

Available to all applicants are Federal Pell Grants which are awarded on a need-first basis. Supplementary grants may be available to students suffering extreme hardship. When you fill out a copy of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the specific eligibility you have will become clearer. Student loans at favorable terms (i.e. deferred interest accruement) may be available, as well as loans for which interest will immediately accrue and PLUS loans for parents of college students.

Even though there are no residence halls on campus, many activities are planned by the Student Affairs office to bring students together socially. Anyone having a hard time with studies can take advantage of the tutoring or help with test-taking available in this office.
