Introduction

One of 58 colleges in the state-supported North Carolina Community College System; Rowan–Cabarrus Community College or RCCC, is a large community college in Rowan County. It was established in the year 1963. The north campus is located in Salisbury, North Carolina. The Rowan-Cabarrus vision is to progress the lives of the inhabitants of Rowan and Cabarrus counties, and build a sustainable future through the power of education.

Rowan-Cabarrus is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), to award associate’s degrees. The institute also holds other discipline based accreditation from agencies such as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), the North Carolina Board of Nursing, the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Rowan-Cabarrus offers associate degree programs in over 40 areas of study, such as arts and sciences, business, health and public services, information technology, engineering technologies, and biotechnology. RCCC also offers certificate and diploma programs focused on continuing education, career training, and basic skills education. The institute also provides transferable credits for students advancing to four-year colleges and universities and assist adults get the additional training they require to start or change careers.

Rowan-Cabarrus offers high school programs in partnership with Kannapolis City Schools, Rowan-Salisbury School System, and Cabarrus County Schools. These programs provide diverse opportunities for high school students to progress at the college level. The services include Huskins bill classes, dual enrollment, and early college. The institute also provides pre-college studies which includes basic skills education, English as a second language support, GED preparation, and so on.

Rowan-Cabarrus offers online degree programs and courses for students who are unable to attend a traditional college due to diverse personal and professional reasons. The institute offers more than 75 online courses within a variety of academic departments including business technologies, arts and sciences, health & public services technologies, general occupational technology, general education programs, and industrial & engineering technologies.

Admissions

Rowan-Cabarrus and other institutions in the North Carolina Community College System operate under an Open Door policy. Students seeking admission to the College must send the completed application form along with official transcripts of previous education, and ACT/ SAT score. Getting a transfer to the institute is easy, and students seeking transfer must send the completed application form along with the official transcripts from all previously attended institutes. Rowan-Cabarrus also welcomes international students; however applicants from non-English countries must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test to provide a proof of their proficiency in the language.

Rowan-Cabarrus offers several types of financial assistance for students and parents who find it difficult to meet the educational expenses. The institute offers financial assistance through various mediums such as grants, scholarships, loans, and federal work study programs. Students

Rowan-Cabarrus boasts an active and vibrant student life. The institute provides students the opportunity to become involved in the college community through activities, events, clubs and more. The Student Government Association (SGA) acts as the link between students and the administration. It is the voice of the student body. The campus is home to several student clubs and organizations such as AHR Chillers, Cosmetology Club, M.I.S.T.E.R., Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Practical Nursing Program Association, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), RC3 Electronics Club, Rowan County Early College Club, and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

The campus also hosts various events and activities such as Bobcats Basketball, Welcome Back Breakfast, Financial Wellness, National Society of Leadership & Success: Speaker Presentation, Student Business Meeting, Blood Drive, International Celebration, Heart Health – Lunch & Learn, Spring Fling, to name a few.

The student services department at RCCC prides itself on assisting students experience the most hassle-free transition to college life. It focuses on helping students with all appropriate steps they need to follow on the path to attaining their educational and career goals. It also covers counseling and career services, financial aid, admission and recruitment, cooperative education, records and registration, and student life and leadership.
