Introduction

Northeast State Community College is a public, two-year comprehensive community college located in Blountville, Tennessee. It is under the governance of the Tennessee Board of Regents of the State University and Community College System of Tennessee. The college was founded as Tri-Cities State Area Vocational-Technical School in 1966. The institute offers technical education and college transfer programs in Blountville; and also operates sites in Gray, Elizabethton, and Kingsport.

As a comprehensive community college, Northeast State provides tailor-made programs designed for students desiring to transfer to another college or University, career programs for students planning to enter the workforce, and continuing education and community service programs for professional growth and personal enrichment of the residents of Unicoi, Sullivan, Carter, Johnson, and Washington Counties.

Academics

Northeast State Community College is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The College offers associate’s degrees in more than 50 programs of study. It also offers associate of applied science degrees in over 30 programs of study, such as nursing, computer science, criminal justice, business management, and office administration technology that train students for direct entry into the workplace.

Northeast State also offers academic and technical certificates such as accounting technology, automotive service, machine tool operations, chemical process operations, auto body service technology, combination welding, computer-aided drafting, office technology, and construction electricity. The institute also offers a large program in continuing education and professional development courses. These programs aid students to update and sharpen work skills and help companies with workforce development.

Northeast State Community College is composed of the following academic divisions: Behavioral and Social Sciences Division; Health Related Professions Division; Humanities Division; Mathematics Division; Technical Education Division; Science Division; and Nursing Program.

Admissions

Northeast State enrolls more than 6,000 students each semester. Freshman students seeking admission to the college must send the completed application form along with the official transcripts and ACT/ SAT score. Getting a transfer to the institution is easy. Applicants seeking a transfer must send the completed form along with official transcripts from previously attended institutes.

Financial Aid

Northeast State identifies the need of the students who are unable to continue their higher education due to financial constraints. The institute provides financial assistance to enable such students to pay for college and further their education. The college provides financial assistance through diverse mediums such as grants, scholarships, loans, and work study programs. Northeast State offers a wide variety of ways for the students to get involved in the campus events and activities. The institute’s commitment to the overall development and student support is evidenced by the campus activities, events and programs that are designed to foster the individual’s collegiate experience. Northeast State is a member institution of the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities, the Association of Student Advancement Programs, the American Student Association of Community Colleges, and the National Council on Student Development.

Northeast State campus hosts several organizations and clubs based on students’ interests. The students are encouraged to join the existing clubs or start a new one. Some of the registered student organizations are Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society, Argumentation and Debate Society, Criminal Justice Society (CJS), Clinical Laboratory Science Club, Electrical Technology Club, Health and Wellness Education, Honors Convocation, The International Club, and Northeast State National Alumni Association.

The Office of Career Services at Northeast State provides job-seeking assistance and job referrals to the enrolled students and alumni. The assistance is available on diverse topics such as cover letters, interviewing techniques, writing resumes, and dressing for success. The Career Services also offers a wide range of services to enable employers to assist them in identifying future employees from our student population.
