Governor Bob Wise, in 2004, signed legislation which officially changed Shepherd College to Shepherd University.

The application is needed for all students seeking to earn a degree, whether or not they are interested in full or part time studies
Students are required to pay a non-refundable application fee before their application can be processed. Students should send a check or money order made payable to “Shepherd University” to the Office of Graduate Admissions with the application form
All applicants who are applying for the Curriculum & Instruction course should be a certified teacher and should also provide valid documents of certification with their application
Applicants who wish to gain admission to full graduate status at Shepherd must be a baccalaureate degree holder from an institution that is regionally accredited with at least a CGPA of 2.75. The students who don’t meet these requirements may receive provisional admission at the discretion of the school’s Graduate Coordinator.

How many students are enrolled at Shepherd University?
Shepherd University offers twelve National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II sports which include baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, softball, golf, football, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse. “Rams” is the mascot for Shepherd University.
The Rams cheerleading squad, dance team and marching band, help to promote team spirit at the school’s home games.
The Shepherd Rams’ first appearance in the NCAA playoffs was made in 1998; in the first round of the playoffs, they ended up beating Indiana University PA 9-7 before they lost in the second round to Slippery Rock. In 1999, Shepherd University made it to the playoffs but they lost in the second round to Millersville.
For four consecutive years (2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007), the Shepherd University’s football team won West Virginia intercollegiate Athletic (WVIAC) Championship. In 2005, the team made an appearance in the national playoffs, but lost in the second round to CW Post. In 2006, in the team’s first ever home playoff game, they reached the third round, but lost to Bloomsburg – but they ranked fifth in the country. In 2007, the team reached the quarterfinals but lost to California. The Ram Stadium is where all the home games are played.
In 2010, the Rams won the WVIAC crown again. The team earned a bid in the NCAA Division II playoffs. In the first round, they beat Shaw University and in the second round, they beat Kutztown University and in the third round, they defeated Mercyhurst. Shepherd University became the very first WVIAC team to make it to the national semi-finals. In a national broadcast, the Shepherd Rams lost a really close game to Delta State University. In several polls, the Rams finished in the top 10.
