Online Business Degree Comparison

Business Management Degrees, Business Doctorate, and Associate's Degrees in Business

If you are considering an online Business degree then you will almost certainly find your options overwhelming. Not only is choosing the right degree program important, but choosing the right school for you can also be challenging, due to the sheer number of them.

It is very important to compare the different programs that are offered, as well as the different schools. Although the business management degree programs might appear similar, many of them offer their own set of incentives.

Comparing different Business degree programs

There are essentially three different types of Business degree programs available: the Business Management Degree, Business Doctorates, and the Associate’s Degree in Business.

Business Management Degrees

A Business Management degree usually takes around 4-5 years to complete. Online degree programs, however, can often take less since sometimes the general education classes that are required by on-campus institutions can be waived.

Skills learned in Business Management degree programs can include bookkeeping, accounting, communication, leadership, and human resources. Some degree programs are specifically designed for the career that you have in mind. For instance, if your career goals include managing a hotel in the future, then you might be interested in the Hotel Management degree program that many schools offer. Of course, there are also general Business degrees offered as well.

A B.S. in Business Administration can give you an advantage over employees that do not hold business degrees, or those that only hold associate degrees. For that reason, many people who earn associate degrees later use them as a pathway to achieve their BS degrees.

Requirements for the Business Management degrees usually consist of a high school diploma and GED.

Business Doctorate Degrees

A Business Doctoral degree is typically more in-depth. It requires a previous undergraduate degree, preferably business-based. Communication, team building skills, accounting, bookkeeping, and human resources are still studied, but you might also take classes in marketing, advertising, distribution, and leadership as well. Generally, students will focus on a specialty area in the Doctorate program that they might not have in their undergraduate studies.

A Doctorate in Business Administration prepares professionals when it comes to planning, directing, controlling and organizing the utilities and functions of an organization. It will usually take around 3 years to complete the program.

Associate’s Degree in Business

There are both online and on-campus schools that offer the Associate’s Degree in business. If you have a local school that offers classes on a part-time basis and your schedule is flexible then you might want to consider one of these. However, for most working adults that can’t afford to decrease their working hours, an online degree program might offer more flexibility and convenience.

An Associate’s Degree in Business typically takes the least amount of time. The average time to complete the program is 2 years, although in some cases the program might be accelerated and take less amount of time. The Associates Business degree program can still prepare the student for jobs in the business field, which they can act upon immediately, or they can use the degree as a means of gaining further education on down the road.

Requirements are typically the same as those of the Business Management degree-a high school diploma or GED.
