Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling

Prerequisites for Earning an Online Counseling Degree

For those who are planning on earning an online degree in counseling, there will be prerequisites that are required. For instance, to pursue courses involving psychological counseling, many schools will require students to have a prior degree in psychology, education or sociology. In order to receive an online counseling degree, students must have a minimum amount of hours of clinical counseling experience, which also must be supervised in order to receive credit for them.

Students who are working toward their master’s degree in counseling are expected to complete a minimum of 72 quarter units of work, with 59 of these quarter units completed during a residency program. In order to graduate, students are also required to complete a minimum of 48 quarter units, which are to be taken once the student has been advanced to degree work. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0, which is the equivalent of a “B” average in all course work that is part of the degree requirement, as well as a “C” average on all subjects that are taken. The final requirement is the successful completion of a master’s degree project and/or a comprehensive written exam.
