Embry Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide (ERAU) traces its origins to the early 1970s, when Dr. Wilbur A. Middleton, a U.S. Army officer at Fort Rucker, approached the school’s president, Jack Hunt, with the idea of establishing a college to offer credit degrees to Army aviators for their military technical training.

As the name suggests, this school is composed of more than 130 distance learning centers, many situated at community colleges and military bases, offering a wide variety of academic degree programs to students across the globe.


With an assortment of programs, students at every stage of educational and career development will find a program to suit their needs. The institute offers an assortment of degree and non-degree programs in today’s most dynamic fields. This school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The academic courses offered by the academic curriculum at ERAU present significant knowledge with immediate applications in the workplace. The faculty is comprised of experienced industry leaders, and students will gain useful insight and develop the skills required to excel in their specific fields. The graduate degrees offered by the institute are Master of Aeronautical Science, Master of Business Administration in Aviation, Master of Science in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Master of Science in Management, Master of Science in Management to Master of Business Administration in Aviation, Master of Science in Project Management, Master of Science in Project Management to Master of Business Administration in Aviation, Master of Science in Space Education, Master of Systems Engineering, Master of Science in Technical Management, Master of Science in Technical Management, and Master of Business Administration in Aviation. Also offered is a combination of online courses and a network of over 150 locations. Every year, it delivers education to more than 26,000 students, with approximately 90,000 class enrollments worldwide. ERAU’s Worldwide Office of Professional Education offers non-degree courses and programs for adult workers in the aerospace and aviation industries. It teaches students through conferences, seminars, workshops, forums, and short courses, eventually resulting in certificates of completion and/ or CEUs. The department also regularly offers online courses leading to the Corporate Aviation Management Certificate, through the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA). ERAU helps students who are unable to meet their educational costs through a wide variety of financial aid programs such as federal and state grants, institutional and private scholarships, and federal and alternative student loans. Students seeking financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. The students at ERAU receive more than $100 million in financial aid each year.

Federal programs are primarily available for U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Some of the federal programs offered are Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program (subsidized and unsubsidized), Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), Federal Graduate PLUS Loan, and Federal Veterans Educational Benefits.

Scholarships are offered to the students who display great skills to excel in the future. The scholarships offered at ERAU are Institutional Scholarship Opportunities, Chancellor and Annual Scholarships, and External Scholarship Opportunities.

William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan offers direct loans to the students. This is a type of financial aid that has to be repaid by the student.

The student body boasts the most diverse mix that you can find. With students from all over the United States and several countries throughout the world, ERAU becomes a potpourri of different cultures and experiences. The Alumni Career Center acts as the common platform where the exiting and ex-students can come together to share business related information with the Eagle’s NEST members. The Eagle’s NEST is the primary website for the alumni. It forms the school’s main communications tool which allows the alumni to find alumni groups, access the master calendar, post professional and personal information, company information, as well as access networking sites like LinkedIN and FaceBook. Students can explore the various networking opportunities with fellow alumni, take a look at a member’s resume, and also add their own Business WebCard, Mentor Profile or Resume Profile to the site.

The LIFT is the alumni magazine. It provides the inside scoop of the university events and top stories. Career Connection is a bi-monthly e-newsletter which is designed to present tools and resources to promote student’s job search as well as career. Other publications include the Leader magazine, the magazine for Embry-Riddle; Avion Newspaper, the student-operated Daytona Beach campus newspaper; Horizons Newspaper, the student-operated Prescott campus newspaper; and Worldwide Focus, the monthly newsletter.

Facilities: The Hunt Library is the main source of information and reference for the online students, staff, and faculty members. The Hunt Library provides anytime access to the online catalog, Voyager, its various databases and web resources. The unique advantage of Hunt is that students can find a librarian available to assist them devise a successful search strategy to look for the required materials from the comprehensive web-based online catalog and electronic resources.

This university has intercollegiate sport teams at Daytona Beach and Prescott campuses. The teams are nicknamed as Eagles, and they participate in a wide variety of sports such as volleyball, wrestling, cross country, soccer, football, and tennis. Eagles are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

The athletic department of Daytona Beach supports 15 intercollegiate sports, and they compete in The Sun Conference. The athletic department of Prescott campus sponsors 6 intercollegiate sports; and the teams are members of the Association of Independent Institutions.


The Office of Alumni Relations, in coordination with the Executive Vice President, selects a range of Worldwide Campus to host alumni receptions in combination with the graduation. The new graduates receive a leather portfolio which includes informational material from the Office of Alumni Relations. These portfolios are presented to the graduates as gifts from the Office of Alumni Relations and Worldwide Headquarters.

The local alumni are cordially invited to graduation events to celebrate their kinship with the university and new graduates. This also forms as a great platform for students and alumni to meet and network with professionals in the aviation/aerospace industry. The events also strengthen the connection between the various Worldwide Campus staff and local alumni members. It opens up new opportunities for those who may be interested in seeking additional degrees from the University. The Alumni-Student Connection Program provides a common platform for the current students to interact with alumni.

Some of the school’s notable alumni include Megan Mallory Rust, a renowned pilot; Cheryl Stearns, an American skydiver; Benjamin Alvin Drew, United States Air Force officer and a NASA astronaut; Nicole Passonno Stott, a renowned private pilot; James Hagedorn, chief operating officer of Scotts Miracle-Gro; Jerry Doyle, an American talk radio host; Michael Durant, an American pilot and author; and Scott O’Grady, former United States Air Force fighter pilot.
