Founded in 1970, American Intercontinental University (AIU) is an international university with locations in England as well as the United States. The university strives to provide students with real-world, career-focused academic programs to give them a strong foundation for entry into the workforce. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the North Central Association.

Headquartered in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, the online branch began in 2001 to broaden the scope of educating students in business, criminal justice, information technology, education, and healthcare. This option provides students the choice of undergraduate and graduate degrees with a variety of concentrations within five schools: School of Business; School of Education; School of Healthcare Management; School of Information Technology; and School of Visual Communication. These academic programs are career-focused and aim to prepare students for real world experiences.

The School of Business takes a real world approach, and offers the following degrees and concentrations: Associate of Arts in Business Administration (AABA) with an emphasis in business, healthcare administration, human resources, criminal justice administration, medical coding & billing, information systems, or visual communication; Bachelor of Business Administration(BBA), or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in accounting & finance, human resource management, marketing, international business, management, healthcare management, operations management, project management, or organizational psychology & development; Associate of Arts in Business Administration (AABA) with a concentration in Criminal Justice Administration, or a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in law enforcement, forensic science, or special populations.

The School of Education provides industry-current instruction through its online master degree program. Students may earn a Master of Education (M.Ed.) with a concentration in leadership of educational organizations, curriculum & instruction, educational assessment & evaluation, and instructional technology.

The School of Healthcare Management offers career-focused online programs for students seeking current knowledge and skills. Degree choices include Associate of Arts in Business Administration (AABA), or, Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), or Master of Business Administration (MBA), with an emphasis in healthcare management.

The School of Information Technology online programs are career-focused learning environments which prepare students for the ever changing world of technology. Students can earn an Associate of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Information Systems; Bachelor of Information Technology with a concentration in either computer forensics, internet security, network administration, computer systems, or programming; or, Master of Information Technology with a concentration in project management, or internet security.

The School of Visual Communication provides students with comprehensive multimedia courses to prepare imaginative students for real world experiences in careers such as marketing, advertising, computer animation, and more. The online program offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication with an emphasis in either digital design, or web design.

The Atlanta campus is located 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta and provides many challenging academic programs that are current with today’s market. Students may choose among degrees in criminal justice, business, game design, visual communication, fashion, interior design, information technology, or media production. The campus also maintains a hands-on forensics lab, a firearm training simulator, a sewing studio, a computer lab, a game design studio, a media production studio, as well as an environmental science lab.

Financial Aid

AIU offers students several financial aid options, including federal and state aid programs, university scholarships and grants, as well as the possibility of tuition reimbursement. Students employed should check with their human resource department for possible tuition reimbursement benefits.

The five residential campuses are located in the following cities: Weston, FL; Atlanta, GA (two locations); Houston, TX; and London, England. The online branch provides a flexible learning environment for students seeking degrees without ever stepping foot on a campus. Students are instructed via the Internet using a variety of interactive tools, chat discussions, and message boards.
