Academics

EMCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Sciences and offers students the chance to earn associate degrees as well as various diplomas. The most popular degree-seeking programs are the Associate of Applied Science degree and the Associate of Arts degree. A number of more technical programs, including those in the mechanics and culinary arts fields, are also very popular with students.

In addition to the opportunities to learn a technical career or an associate’s degree, the college also offers a number of adult education and GED-oriented courses to community members. Because EMCC understands that not everyone can attend classes during regular school hours, it is possible to take weekend or night classes, and a growing number of courses are also being offered online.

Most Popular Fields of Study

Admissions

Prospective students must submit a completed application form, along with SAT or ACT scores. It is also important to provide proof of GED or high school diploma, an official high school transcript, and in the case of some departments, letters of recommendation. Students who are interested in applying for on-campus housing should also complete the housing form and include it with the application. The school runs on a semester system, meaning that applications should be submitted at least a semester ahead of one’s intended entry date.

Financial Aid

At EMCC, it is understood that college is a major investment. As an accredited school, students attending are eligible for national and federal student financial aid in the form of loans and grants. Once accepted to the college, students should immediately complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. Sometimes, the Department of Education requires further verification of information on the form. For students who are feeling a little overwhelmed with the entire process, or for anyone who needs assistance figuring out the best way to pay for college, counselors in the Office of Financial Aid are always available during business hours for meetings.
