University of Wisconsin-Parkside, School of Business and Technology History
University of Wisconsin/Parkside, founded in 1968, is a public, coeducational institution. The 700-acre campus is located in a rural area 4 miles from Kenosha near Lake Michigan. Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 4944.
The School of Business and Technology was founded in 1977 and is located on the main campus, in its own building, Molinaro Hall. The basic educational approach is broad in nature and is aimed at achieving a general competence for overall management. Both the case method and theoretical approaches are used.
University of Wisconsin-Parkside, School of Business and Technology Academics
The School offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA). Other programs include cooperative programs with University of Wisconsin campuses at Oshkosh, Eau Claire, and La Crosse and joint research. The most popular courses are management and marketing.
Thirty-two total credits are required to complete the MBA, including 16 elective credits. Required courses include:

- Corporate Financial Management
- Production/Operations Management
- Quantitative Methods
- Policy Formulation and Administration
Students may eliminate or substitute requirements for prerequisite courses in their area of expertise.
Business students may take relevant nonbusiness courses in other departments. The minimum time permitted to complete the master’s degree program attending full time is 1 year (if starting in the fall); maximum, 7 years. For students attending part time, the minimum is 2 years; maximum, 7 years.
There are 21 total full-time graduate business faculty, of whom 90% hold a doctorate. Faculty salaries are rated below average for Category IIA institutions, based on the AAUP rating system. Average number of credit hours faculty teach is 9; average business class size is 20.

Library
The university’s main library houses a collection of more than 326,000 volumes and 685,000 microform items, and subscribes to 1550 periodicals. Students have access to such databases and networks as Compustat.
Computers
Graduate business students need not have their own PCs. The business school has its own computer facilities, consisting of the Computer Support Center, housing an IBM 4341, a DEC PDP 11/750, and a VAX 750. Some 50 terminals access the central computers from various student laboratories, which are open from 7 a.m. to midnight. The library maintains 45 PCs and Macs for student use. Technical consulting services and noncredit seminars are offered.
Career and Job Placement
Placement services are limited, since most students are already employed full time, and are available through the university placement office.
International Students
International students must take the TOEFL. International students must score 550 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT) or 79-80 on the Internet-Based (iBT) version. They also must submit a translation of their transcripts, and or a U.S. evaluation of credits and degree, and proof of adequate funds to cover 2 years of study. The application deadline for fall entry is June 1.
Calendar
The school operates on a traditional semester basis. Semesters are 16 weeks long; summer sessions, 6 weeks. Graduate programs are offered during the evening only and and periodically on Saturday.
University of Wisconsin-Parkside, School of Business and Technology Admissions
A bachelor’s degree is required, along with a GPA of 2.75 and a GMAT score of 450. Most important admissions factors are academic accomplishments and ability, GMAT results, and management potential. A strong mathematics background is required.
The number of applicants for the 2006-2007 class was 28; 27 were accepted; 24 enrolled. The average GPA was 3.0; average GMAT score was 500. Transfers are accepted.
Students may begin the MBA program in the fall, spring, and summer. To apply, students must submit an application form, a transcript, GMAT scores, a nonrefundable application fee of $45, 2 letters of recommendation, and a resume. The application deadlines are August 1 for fall entry; December 15, spring; April 15, summer. Students are notified as soon as the file is complete of the admissions decision. Once accepted, students may defer admission by written request to the MBA committee.
University of Wisconsin-Parkside, School of Business and Technology Financial Aid
Stipends and programs available for minority students include the Wisconsin stipend program. The FAFSA is required. Check with the school for current application deadlines.
Tuition for in-state residents is $375 per credit. Nonresidents pay $964 per credit. Graduate student housing consists of on-campus housing for single students only. There is a referral service to help procure off-campus housing.
University of Wisconsin-Parkside, School of Business and Technology Students
Fourteen percent of the current graduate business school class are enrolled full time; 95% have had an average of 4 years of full-time work experience prior to entering graduate school, a factor preferred by the school. The greatest percentage of students are from Wisconsin (90%). Forty-one percent are women, 15% are minorities, and 3% are foreign nationals. The average age at entrance is 33; ages range from 23 to 50. Five percent enter directly from undergraduate school; 4% already have a graduate degree. Students’ undergraduate majors were as follows: 50%, business; 20%, engineering; 10%, liberal arts; and 10%, math and science. In 2006, 20 graduate business degrees were awarded.
