Academics

Officially established in 1985 as an institution providing short-term training courses for computer service and sales, the DCI Career Institute has grown from a simple training organization to an incorporated company. Now, the school offers full-time continuing education classes in more subjects than just computer networks, including business information specialists, medical assistance and massage therapy. Additionally, the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training officially accredited the institution in 1991.

Since the DCI Career Institute’s focus is on professional studies and continuing education, the school provides students with a lot more hands-on assistance as well as personal instruction when compared to other institutions. Additionally, the four, full-time, diploma programs offered traditionally require less than one year to complete.

Classes are offered either in the mornings, afternoons and evenings, so students who hold part-time or full-time jobs can work around their schedules.

Besides academic programs, the DCI Career Institute also provides corporate training and private tutoring sessions for companies necessitating employee training or individuals desiring to learn a particular software application. At the same time, the school is an official VUE Testing Center, allowing students and the general public to take specific IT tests in order to receive certifications for such programs and organizations as CompTIA and Microsoft.

Unique Programs

One thing that the DCI Career Institute offers to help students, besides their curriculum, is their resources center and career services. With a mission to help prepare students to actively compete within the work force, the career services center offers technical support for constructing both a resume and a cover letter, as well as allows students to enhance their interview techniques through their “mock interview” sessions.

Additionally, the school has listings for local employment and provides assistance for online job searches. Although current students are the majority of individuals who utilize the school’s career services, graduates are also encouraged to use the resource center if they ever need to search for a new occupation.

Admissions

In order to apply to the DCI Career Institute, applicants must schedule and attend an interview with an admissions representative as well as take and pass a school-administered basic assessment test. A high school transcript or proof of a GED must be included within the application, as well as a signed copy of the school’s enrollment agreement form. Students are also encouraged to set an appointment up with the financial aid office to see if they qualify for monetary aid.

If applying for the medical assistance or massage therapy programs, a medical health form signed by a physician and proof of tuberculosis and other required vaccinations must also be submitted.

The DCI Career Institute does not require any applicant to have prior experience or knowledge related to their field of study. Additionally, the school does not have open admissions.

Credit is occasionally awarded to students with previous training or education experience. If requested credit is accepted, the institution will charge a pro-rated tuition and adjust the total length of the particular program.

Financial Aid

All students at the DCI Career Institute interested in financial aid must fill out both the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) and a financial aid application before being considered for any possible monetary assistance. Once the school receives the processed results from the federal application, they will deem eligibility with regards to monetary assistance.

Aid is provided through Career Link, job services, vocational programs and other organizations, both federal and non-federal. Through participation with the Federal Pell Grant Program and the Federal Family Education Loan Program, the DCI Career Institute provides students with additional loans, grants and scholarships. In fact, students become automatically considered for such awards as the Merit Scholarship and the Family Scholarship upon submission of all required applications and documents.

Students

Since it is a private, for-profit institution, the student body of the DCI Career Institute is quite small, with around 150 full-time students per year. The majority of students are women and the most populated age demographics are between the 20 to 30 year range.

Because of the small student body, the school does not offer any on-campus or off-campus housing. However, there is a variety of lodging available within Monaca, Pennsylvania, not to mention that Pittsburgh is located only 22 miles away.

Out of the classroom, the nearby city of Pittsburgh offers all of the restaurants, bars and clubs to satisfy all of those nightlife urges. Additionally, such museums as the Andy Warhol Museum are housed within the city, allowing DCI Career Institute students to check out some famous, modern art.
